Definitions of wellbeing
• A feeling of contentment,
enjoyment, confidence and
engagement with the world
• The feeling of having the
resilience to cope when times
are tougher than usual
Five steps to mental wellbeing
• Connect – connect with the
people around you: your family,
friends, colleagues etc
• Be active – take a walk, go
cycling or play a game (you
don't have to go to the gym)
steps to mental wellbeing contd.
• Keep learning – learning new skills
can give you a sense of
achievement and a new confidence
• Give to others – even the smallest
act can count, whether it's a smile, a
thank you or a kind word
steps to mental wellbeing contd.
• Be mindful – be more aware of
the present moment, including
your thoughts and feelings,
your body and the world
around you
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness?
• Mindfulness could also be ‘noticing’
what we don't normally notice,
because our heads are too busy in
the future or in the past - thinking
about what we need to do or going
over what we have done
Stress is your body's way of
responding to any kind of demand or
threat. When you feel threatened, your
nervous system responds by releasing
a flood of stress hormones, including
adrenaline and cortisol, which arouse
the body for emergency action.
How can you deal with stress?
• Identify stress, manage it and
minimise it
• Remain positive, focused and
motivated even in the most
challenging of circumstances
• Stress Less
• Recharge: learn to maximise your
physical and mental energy levels
Group Discussion
Automatic Pilot (Autopilot)
Have you ever started eating a snack bar,
taken a couple of bites, then noticed all
you had left was an empty packet in your
hand? Or been driving somewhere and
arrived at your destination only to realise
you remember nothing about your
journey? Most people have! These are
common examples of "mindlessness," or
"going on automatic pilot."
