Santiago, a 7-year-old boy, was given several language proficiency tests from the Woodcock-Munoz Language Survey. His performance was above grade level in most areas. Specifically, he scored comparable to 9th graders in reading comprehension and 11-12 year olds in vocabulary and verbal analogies. His writing skills were at a 3rd grade level. The assessment concluded that Santiago would benefit from an advanced or gifted academic program to challenge his strong English language abilities.
