History
Saint Leo University is a regionally accredited, liberal-arts-
based institution known for an inclusive Catholic heritage,
enduring values, and capacity for innovation. The school was
chartered in 1889 by Catholic Benedictine monks in rural
Pasco County, FL, making Saint Leo the first Catholic college
in the state. Saint Leo provides access to education to people
of all faiths, emphasizing the Benedictine philosophy of
balanced growth of mind, body, and spirit. (Saint Leo
University, 2015)

Change Process
• No communication within the organization
• Loss of valuable employees and decrease in moral
• Had employees complete surveys to determine where
they went wrong
• Used the information collected from surveys to create
an effective communication plan
• Hired external company to evaluate the the changes
made to the organization and if the university was
headed in the right direction.
• Saint Leo implemented suggestions from the company
and the employees.

Planning, Implementing, and Strategies for
Overcoming Resistance and Sustaining the
Change
• There were two types of resistance that Saint Leo faced which were
employees that were afraid to fail and employees that were
concerned with the loss of there authority.
• Employees that were afraid to fail were intimidated by the cultural
and structural changes on the laborer and how it made them
question their abilities.
• This sort of self-question destroys self-assurance and undermines
self-awareness and improvement.
• Based on the resistance, leadership strived to make sure that there
was effective communication and to follow through on the things that
were promised.
• The communication did help the employees to feel included and
secure in their positions as well as the direction of the company.

Overall Effectiveness of the
Change Process
• In the beginning the change process was
not effective due to lack of communication.
• Once the university realized that the lack
of communication caused ineffective
change, they made sure to have a proper
stream of communication across all
departments and directly from the
president and the leadership team.

Reflection
• Auditing, revising and continuously
improving is the only way for Saint Leo to
measure the success of the changes. As
much as change is troublesome and even
difficult, it is additionally a progressing
procedure. Indeed, even change
administration methodologies are regularly
balanced all through a venture.
