Suggestions and ideas to make  Wilton more inviting, appealing and user friendly for residents and visitors alike.
Wilton Town Boat Dock and Boat Ramp Consider boat slips to enable lake residents to commute to downtown via lake Consider changing guard rail  and use natural materials for barrier.
Wilson Stream bridge  to be replaced by Dept. of Transportation in 2011
Consolidate and improve signage by using universal signs making boat access area more attractive. Town Boat Access area Friends of Wilson Lake installed new kiosk  2011.

Finish wall work along foot of lake and continue walking path
Change signage to more universal signs to give be more attractive look to lake front area.
Building and telephone pole could use landscaping to be more attractive

New signage needed to make all businesses easily visible to pedestrians. One goal is to make downtown more pedestrian friendly and inviting.
Inviting to pedestrians – wares on display and note signage. Businesses need to maintain outside areas be more inviting to public.

Nice landscape on side of post office – needs little maintenance.

How do we encourage property owners to maintain and improve buildings and visual appeal of property in downtown area?
Sidewalk curb needs improvement at Methodist Church parking area.
Crosswalk improperly placed, has been eliminated at Methodist Church across from  Franklin Savings Bank.
 
Vegetation needs maintenance to allow  good  visibility of signage.
Overgrown areas around street signs needs regular attention.
 
 
Timely follow up with property owners regarding taxes and repairs.

Extend sidewalk along marked parking spaces at the Methodist Church on Main Street
Consider encircling these posts with green space and plantings. Great area for benches and picnic tables around Franklin Savings Bank  green space areas.

Off  street parking signage needed in downtown area. High Street Parking Area
A unique public service in downtown  area, is the public telephone outside of Key Bank on the  corner of Main and High Street.
Suggest expansion of green area around monument  by 5 feet.  It would then incorporate hydrant and flag pole and be more appealing and contribute to better traffic flow.
Parking in front of monument  was eliminated  in 2011 to allow improved traffic flow around monument.
To ensure safety  signage should not be positioned  on sidewalks.

Wilton Walking Audit
