The first wiki was developed in 1994 by Ward Cunningham, who installed it on the internet in 1995 and named it "wiki," which means "quick" in Hawaiian. Wikis are defined as websites that allow any user to edit pages or create new pages using a web browser. They promote topic associations between pages through easy page linking. The most popular wiki is Wikipedia, which is a multilingual online encyclopedia launched in 2001 and maintained by volunteer editors.
