Mobilizing Admissions: The 2016 Social Admissions ReportGil Rogers
From text messaging to video chat, Facebook to YikYak, you’re bombarded with countless student recruitment ideas. The one aspect they have in common? Mobile.
This session uses findings from the 2016 Social Admissions Report to provide practical recommendations on how to implement and optimize mobile strategies for recruitment.
There is a significant disconnect between how academics and the public view the role and reputation of universities. When asked about the most important attributes of a top university, academics prioritized deep academic expertise while the public emphasized career outcomes like access to top jobs. Additionally, the public expects universities to demonstrate real-world impact beyond academic excellence in order to be highly reputable. Universities must communicate how they provide opportunities for students through career preparation, access, and societal impact if they want to improve their reputation with the public.
Getting it Right: What Really Matters to Students In Social Media Communities...Corie Martin, Ed.D.

The top conversation topics among students related to roommates, orientation, selfies, friends, residence life, interests, major, frustration, transportation, and being excited. The document emphasizes that it is important for higher education professionals to provide a safe, supportive space and be available to students during this critical time to help influence enrollment decisions.
Lee Rainie, Director of Internet Science and Technology research, details the digital divide among Americans' internet usage to the the U.S. Census Bureau's National Advisory Committee on Racial, Ethnic, and Other Populations.

Attention is linked with economic value creation. However, with infinite content options (space) yet finite attention (time) and personalized social algorithms curating it all for us, it's going to be increasingly challenging to stand out.
In this presentation, Steve Rubel (SVP/Director of Insights), explains the issue in detail along with practical solutions.
Innovation and technology go hand in hand in developing the vision and strategy for the business solutions these leaders employ to engage current and new customers (boomers and beyond), and to establish new business models. Explore the best practices in innovation that drive new revenue generation. How is innovation affected by the adoption of technology by older consumers? Lee Rainie and Andrew Perrin present what works and what doesn’t when innovating in large public and nonprofit organizations at the Boomer Summit in Washington.

Gone Digital, Going Strategic: Dawn & Rise of Digital Professionals in Higher EdKarine Joly
This session was presented at UB Tech 2015 in Orlando. You can find a 30-minute screencast I recorded on my blog: http://goo.gl/y8ugS9
What difference can a decade make in higher education? The past 10 years have changed everything for digital professionals working in universities and colleges across the country. In 10 years only, the typical "web person" has moved from a cubicle in the basement next to - ok, in - the web server room to the corner office on the third floor. As social media, mobile and more have been added to the digital plate, many professionals had to hit the ground running repeatedly, but yet managed to mature into a rising generation of digital communication and marketing campus leaders. In this session, you'll hear about the decisive moments leading to this major shift and learn the strategies the most successful digital professionals have used to get a seat at the decision table. You will also get an overview of the major trends that will impact your digital job in the future and what you can do to get ready to tackle these new challenges.
#Change: Now Trending for Generations, Expectations & Higher EducationKarine Joly
Karine Joly discusses change and technology trends for higher education across generations. She notes that technology changes are driven both by and in spite of people's needs and expectations. Different generations engage with technology in different ways, with younger generations being more online, mobile, and social media-focused. Key trends include the primacy of mobile devices, cloud content and files, social media surpassing traditional media, growing video and live-streaming consumption, and more online learning and teaching options beyond traditional universities. Joly argues that universities can act as trusted guides through this sea of change.
Social Media TOS Crash Course (Redacted #heweb13 presentation)Karine Joly
This document provides an overview and crash course on social media terms of service (TOS) agreements. It notes that the TOS acts as the contract users agree to when creating an account on social media platforms. Breaking the TOS could result in content removal, account termination, or even legal action against an institution. The document outlines several specific TOS policies regarding following/connecting with others, sharing content like videos and photos, contests and promotions, advertising and branding, and privacy. Overall, it stresses the importance for users, especially institutions, to understand and abide by each platform's TOS.

The State of Print and Electronic Publications in Higher EducationKarine Joly
The document discusses the results of a 2010 survey of 262 higher education institutions on their use of print and electronic publications. Key findings include:
- 94% of respondents have started relying more on electronic publications in the last 2 years due to budget constraints and the ability to reach audiences.
- 63% have started relying less on print publications for the same reasons.
- Budget cuts have led 38% to rely more on electronic publications and 44% to rely less on print.
- Only 3% publish exclusively in print now, while 65% publish exclusively online.
Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, email marketing, web advertising, mobile web and more. So many tools, so little time. With tighter budgets and shrinking teams, something's gotta give. But why not stop making these tough marketing decisions based on hunches, guesses and opinions? With the help of online analytics, it's possible to find out what really works and what doesn't. So, let's start the social media and web analytics revolution at your institution and others across the country. After learning more about the current state of online analytics in higher education, you will find out what you need to do to join this revolution and hopefully change the face of higher ed marketing.
