Electric school buses are more efficient to operate, meaning 77-90% of the electrical energy pulled from the grid (or elsewhere) is used to power the vehicle's wheels. In internal combustion engines, most of the energy stored in the gasoline or diesel is lost to heat and friction. Only about 25-40% of the energy stored in the diesel is used to power the vehicle's wheels.
