Factory workers in the late 19th century worked 10-16 hours a day, 7 days a week, which made them unhappy. Some factory owners agreed to close on Sundays to allow workers to attend church. In 1926, Henry Ford decided to close his Ford Motor Company for two days each weekend. This gave workers free time to go on trips and buy Ford cars. While most people now have weekends off, some essential workers like firefighters, police officers, and doctors work every day.
