Effective Ways to Make Science Fun for Your KidsAdvanced Academy
Each & every kid is a scientist in making new things! They are praying about the world around them. Toddlers like to touch, trap, drop, or indeed consume anything that they set their eyes on. Similar exploratory and occasionally devastating education lets them endure more about the world around them. And this is more or less how science enquires into the secrets of nature.
I took my school-age class on a nature walk on the outskirts of our very large school yard to discover what might be there. The children never use this part of the yard so it is open to new exploration.
The children were asked to find items that were tall, short, bumpy, smooth, small, new, colourful and so on. They found all kinds of different things on our walk and became very excited about their discoveries. The inquiries made on the walk made for additional research and projects with the children. This project was a wonderful experience for myself and the children involved.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Children are inquisitive. Their questions are never-ending, starting from why do
boats float? How do we get rain? Or how does a plane fly?. Especially if you are
dealing with a preschooler you will come across hundreds of questions in a day.
Because these little learners have an open mind and are very curious about the
things around them.
Despite the huge interest in learning things, they sometimes get bored with the
regular class. Especially their enthusiasm gets fade when they grew old and lose
interest in the STEM subject. However, when we make learning fun with exciting
activities, kids will naturally love to explore the things and learn concepts behind the
activities.

4. Homemade Ice-Cream
This is one of the most exciting experiments for kids, as it involves ice. Through this
experiment, kids will get to see the exciting chemical reactions of salt and ice.
Materials required:
• 1 table spoon sugar
• 7 table spoon kosher salt
• 1 table spoon vanilla extract
• ½ cup cream
5. Parachutes
Do you think is there any exciting method to learn the relationship between force
and momentum apart from the book? Yes, This parachute experiment will not only
excite the kids but also make the children learn the relationship.
Materials required:
• Egg or any other fragile item
Help the kids to build parachutes for a dixie cup to hold the eggs and let them
watch what happens when the item is dropped from a height of at least 5 to 6 feet.
6. Magnetic Slime
Slime activities are always an exciting one
for kids, due to their colorful appearance.
Most of the parents or educators will
include this experiment in their activity
session, as they are fun. But this activity
is quite different from the regular one. It
requires iron oxide powder and magnets
where they are added into the mix.
However, getting the perfect slime
consistency can be quite tricky.
7. Jellybean Building
This is one of the exciting experiments where you will need a pack of jellybeans or
large marshmallows. This activity will help the children to understand the design,
technology, and concept behind the structural engineering. Help the kids to connect
the toothpicks with the jelly beans and let them analyze which all shapes hold
together and why?. If the kids are preschoolers you can encourage them to build a
stack.
