This white paper describes how subscriber awareness in TR-069 systems can address these challenges and how such systems can be aligned to other telecom management systems
The document provides an overview of mobile applications and the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). It discusses the growth of mobile phones and applications. WAP allows access to services like financial information, tickets, bills, and news from mobile devices by optimizing for bandwidth constraints. The WAP architecture includes a WAP gateway and web server. Key WAP protocols include WSP, WTP, WTLS, and WDP. WAP handles device and network limits through techniques like binary encoding, asynchronous requests, and minimizing bandwidth usage. The future of WAP depends on consumer adoption and whether new technologies require different infrastructures.
This document discusses protocols for quality of service (QoS) support in computer networks. It introduces the Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), which allows network nodes to reserve resources for particular data flows to support QoS. RSVP is receiver-initiated and uses soft state to maintain reservations in the face of changing network conditions or routes. The document also covers Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), which assigns labels to data flows to enable QoS support and traffic engineering within an MPLS domain.
Integrated and Differentiated services Chapter 17daniel ayalew
The document discusses integrated and differentiated services for managing internet traffic. Integrated services (ISA) allow traffic to reserve resources and receive guaranteed quality of service. Differentiated services classify traffic into groups that receive different treatment. Interior routers implement per-hop behaviors like expedited forwarding to give preferential treatment based on packet codes. Boundary routers condition traffic to enforce service level agreements.
Traffic and Congestion Control in ATM Networks Chapter 13daniel ayalew
This document discusses traffic and congestion control in ATM networks. It describes how ATM networks require different approaches than other networks due to factors like high speeds, small cell sizes, and the need to support both real-time and bursty traffic. It outlines the ITU-T and ATM forum frameworks for congestion control, including schemes for delay-sensitive traffic like voice and video as well as bursty traffic using techniques like Available Bit Rate and Guaranteed Frame Rate. Key issues discussed include latency effects, cell delay variation, and how the network contributes to delay variation.
This document discusses next steps for software-defined networking (SDN) in the transport domain. It proposes further prototyping and testing of a multi-domain, multi-layer SDN carrier framework to provide essential SDN tools for carriers. This includes developing transport SDN API specifications to allow SDN deployment across multiple technologies. Lessons from a previous joint OIF/ONF prototype demonstrated the potential to realize an SDN architecture for carriers across wide-area networks. The document outlines ongoing and future work items at OIF related to developing a transport SDN northbound interface and information model.
Congestion Control in Data Networks And Internets Chapter 10daniel ayalew
This chapter discusses congestion control in data networks. It begins by defining congestion as occurring when the number of packets approaches network capacity. The objective of congestion control is to keep the number of packets below a level where performance drops off dramatically. It then discusses queuing theory and how network queues can grow without bound if arrival rates exceed transmission rates. The chapter covers different congestion control strategies including backpressure, implicit signaling of congestion, and explicit congestion signaling. It also addresses traffic management concerns like fairness and quality of service.
Integrated services and RSVP - ProtocolPradnya Saval
- MPLS can be used to create virtual private networks (VPNs) that provide wide-area connectivity between sites of a large organization through dedicated label switched paths. This gives the appearance of a dedicated network while transmitting through a public or shared MPLS network.
- The integrated services model was developed by IETF to provide different levels of quality of service in the Internet. It uses resource reservation, packet classification, and scheduling to ensure applications receive their requested QoS.
- The Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) is used by the integrated services model to signal resource requirements and set up flows with a requested QoS across a network. RSVP uses soft state and receiver-initiated reservations.

Modern technology has both benefited and complicated society. Mobile phones were invented to meet society's demand for constant connectivity and have influenced lifestyle, while adding additional features over time. Media players also evolved from cassettes to CDs to mp3s due to societal preferences shaping manufacturers' offerings. While technology has simplified life through leisure, information access, and networking, it has also increased pollution, traffic congestion, and exacerbated climate change.
A significant amount of time is spent finding and re-purposing content across many documents to create new ones. IntelliSuggest is a context-based search tool that provides precise results when a user selects a paragraph or section in a document. It analyzes the selected content based on five dimensions - structural match, folder proximity match, keyword match, freshness, and conceptual match - to display relevant sections from other documents that the user can then replace the existing one with for easier content reuse.
The document discusses using Python with OpenStreetMap. It describes Mapnik as a Python-accessible rendering tool for OpenStreetMap. It provides examples of using Mapnik to style and render OpenStreetMap data. It also outlines several other Python tools for working with OpenStreetMap, including bulk uploading, the PythonOsmApi wrapper, and CloudMade's Python API.
This document contains an introductory screen for an e-learning storyboard about using latitude and longitude. It provides the title, objective, and credits for the storyboard. It also includes instructions for navigation between the different content screens in the storyboard. The storyboard appears to be introducing the concepts of latitude and longitude through interactive content screens with explanations, examples, questions, and graphics. The overall goal is to teach students how to use and understand latitude and longitude to read maps more effectively.

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)Julian Hyde
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.

Hand Rolled Applicative User ValidationCode KataPhilip Schwarz
Could you use a simple piece of Scala validation code (granted, a very simplistic one too!) that you can rewrite, now and again, to refresh your basic understanding of Applicative operators <*>, <*, *>?
The goal is not to write perfect code showcasing validation, but rather, to provide a small, rough-and ready exercise to reinforce your muscle-memory.
Despite its grandiose-sounding title, this deck consists of just three slides showing the Scala 3 code to be rewritten whenever the details of the operators begin to fade away.
The code is my rough and ready translation of a Haskell user-validation program found in a book called Finding Success (and Failure) in Haskell - Fall in love with applicative functors.
