Illinois Children's Healthcare Foundation CMHI 1.0 initiative funded Adams County $2.85M over 8 years to create an integrated system that addresses children's mental health in schools, primary care and community settings. South Ward Children's Alliance
The New Jersey Chapter’s CPAP team was invited by the South Ward Children’s Alliance in Newark’s South Ward to support the creation of a community needs assessment that could be used in their efforts to improve public education in the South Ward. The Alliance has become increasingly aware that addressing problems in the community, such as housing, crime and recreation, is a critical part of improving the South Ward’s public schools. The CPAP was asked to support their efforts to identify social issues in the surrounding neighborhoods and how they should be prioritized. The long list of social issues in the area creates unstable environments where education becomes a huge challenge for students. The overarching goal is to create a stable life for students so they can do better in school. A major component of the field work was to work with parents of children in the schools to ensure their points of view. The team conducted a review of data provided by the Alliance, researched additional sources for data, combined them with the views of the parents and produced a final presentation of the work, including maps, data, and results.
While this was a very different kind of project for the team, considering the close link with public education, the team was enthusiastic to do it. Two of the team members brought strong backgrounds in urban public education to the project. The team’s analytical approach provided the Alliance with important information they will use to consider programs to address the neighborhood’s most urgent needs.

Update on the Community Initiatives Fund Grant - ToothFairy

Alberta oral heatlh action plan
This document summarizes Alberta's Oral Health Action Plan (OHAP) from 2016. The OHAP focuses on 4 domains: health promotion, prevention services, treatment services, and research & surveillance. It outlines programs and initiatives within each domain, including community water fluoridation, school-based fluoride varnish and sealant programs, seniors oral health programs, and dental public health clinics and outreach. Data is presented on utilization and outcomes of these programs, with the goal of improving oral health for all Albertans, especially vulnerable populations.
Filling the Gap: Running a large scale clinic
1) The Filling the Gap Clinic was launched by the College of Dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan in response to high oral health needs identified among recently arrived Syrian refugees.
2) Over a period of 9 days, the clinic provided over $15,000 worth of dental treatment to 112 refugee patients across 49 adult patients and 63 child patients. Common treatments included fillings, extractions, and oral hygiene instruction.
3) Lessons from the initial clinic included logistical challenges in dealing with insurance providers, a need for improved processes, and developing Arabic language oral health materials. Going forward, the College aims to formalize programs and referral pathways to provide ongoing comprehensive dental care to refugees.
Population and Public Health Dental Clinic
The Population and Public Health Dental Clinic began as a pilot project in 1995 to serve high-risk schools, and became a permanent clinic to provide dental care for children experiencing poor oral health without insurance. The clinic sees each child for a single full treatment plan of 5-8 appointments to restore their oral health, provides education on oral health and nutrition, and helps families connect with community dental services upon discharge. The clinic faces challenges of language barriers, behavior management, ensuring nutritional education takes hold, dealing with severe dental issues, and ensuring follow-up care after treatment.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune Disease
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

Recomendações da OMS sobre cuidados maternos e neonatais para uma experiência pós-natal positiva.
Em consonância com os ODS – Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável e a Estratégia Global para a Saúde das Mulheres, Crianças e Adolescentes, e aplicando uma abordagem baseada nos direitos humanos, os esforços de cuidados pós-natais devem expandir-se para além da cobertura e da simples sobrevivência, de modo a incluir cuidados de qualidade.
Estas diretrizes visam melhorar a qualidade dos cuidados pós-natais essenciais e de rotina prestados às mulheres e aos recém-nascidos, com o objetivo final de melhorar a saúde e o bem-estar materno e neonatal.
Uma “experiência pós-natal positiva” é um resultado importante para todas as mulheres que dão à luz e para os seus recém-nascidos, estabelecendo as bases para a melhoria da saúde e do bem-estar a curto e longo prazo. Uma experiência pós-natal positiva é definida como aquela em que as mulheres, pessoas que gestam, os recém-nascidos, os casais, os pais, os cuidadores e as famílias recebem informação consistente, garantia e apoio de profissionais de saúde motivados; e onde um sistema de saúde flexível e com recursos reconheça as necessidades das mulheres e dos bebês e respeite o seu contexto cultural.
Estas diretrizes consolidadas apresentam algumas recomendações novas e já bem fundamentadas sobre cuidados pós-natais de rotina para mulheres e neonatos que recebem cuidados no pós-parto em unidades de saúde ou na comunidade, independentemente dos recursos disponíveis.
É fornecido um conjunto abrangente de recomendações para cuidados durante o período puerperal, com ênfase nos cuidados essenciais que todas as mulheres e recém-nascidos devem receber, e com a devida atenção à qualidade dos cuidados; isto é, a entrega e a experiência do cuidado recebido. Estas diretrizes atualizam e ampliam as recomendações da OMS de 2014 sobre cuidados pós-natais da mãe e do recém-nascido e complementam as atuais diretrizes da OMS sobre a gestão de complicações pós-natais.
O estabelecimento da amamentação e o manejo das principais intercorrências é contemplada.
