Factors Affecting
Climate
When Sun’s Rays
Strike
ACTIVITY # 1

climate

How Latitude Affects Climate
The temperature in the places near
the equator is higher resulting in a
warm climate
Places that are not always vertically
hit by the sun’s rays experience cold
climate
How Latitude Affects Climate
As the latitude increases, the smaller the
angle of the sun’s rays strike the surface
When the area is farther from the
equator, the air temperature is lower
When the area is closer to the equator,
the air temperature is higher.
Altitude
The Higher, The Colder
ACTIVITY # 2
Objective
Explain how altitude affects climate

Guide Questions
Which place is the coldest?
Which place is the hottest?
Based on the data, what is the
relationship between altitude and
temperature of a place?
ALTITUDE
Altitude
Is the elevation or is the distance
above sea level.
The altitude
of a place will
affect the air
temperature.
Mt. Kilimanjaro
Nigeria
5895 ft
Air temperature
decreases as the
altitude
increases.
Why is that during summer,
many people visit Baguio City?
BAGUIO
-It has an annual average
temperature of 16ºC
-It has an elevation of 1435 m
above sea level
BAGUIO
The air temperature
decreases as the
altitude increases.
Why do mountain climbers wear
jackets and thick clothes when they
go up the mountain?
For every
1000 meters,
there is a
drop of 6.5ºC
As the higher elevations, there is less
air and the molecules are farther
apart.
Lighter air cannot absorb much heat,
making air temperature lower.
Ultimately, the decrease in the air
temperature is due to the decrease in
air pressure.
