The facility director provides updates on improvements made at Fortis Malar Hospital over the past quarter. He notes that achievements are now at 92% due to efforts to address prior issues like lack of talent and high operational costs. Experts have been hired, costs reduced through process improvements, and patient satisfaction has increased through better care services. While progress has been made, the director reiterates that their work is just beginning and they will continue making changes and improvements to systems to achieve over 110% in the coming months.
The document discusses several health initiatives and projects in Qatar:
- The Supreme Council of Health recently launched the Qatar Dietary Guidelines, the first such framework in the GCC, to provide guidance on healthy eating.
- The inauguration of the Qatar Biobank is a milestone for medical research in Qatar. The biobank will enhance contributions to research and provide knowledge on health issues.
- Other projects discussed include a new electronic system for communicable disease surveillance, a mother and child cohort study examining environmental and lifestyle factors impacting health, and a new e-system to record vaccinations across healthcare providers in Qatar.
The document discusses the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer in GCC countries due to rapid lifestyle changes following increased oil wealth. It notes high rates of obesity, reaching over 75% of adults in some countries, and diabetes affecting around 1 in 5 adults in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. This shift is attributed to diets high in sugar and processed foods replacing traditional diets, along with more sedentary lifestyles. The report argues early diagnosis and preventative healthcare are needed to curb NCDs and help GCC countries achieve their economic goals.
The document summarizes the Winterbourne Medicines Programme, which was established to investigate concerns about the overuse of antipsychotic and antidepressant medications for people with learning disabilities. Six NHS foundation trusts partnered with NHS Improving Quality to better understand current medication practices and test improvements over six months. The program aimed to ensure medications are used safely and appropriately for this patient population.

Current funding for medical formula through the Newborn Screening Program has reached $825,000 annually but costs are exceeding revenue, threatening sustainability. Over 30 metabolic disorders require medical nutrition therapy identified through screening over 50 conditions. Without treatment, affected individuals experience severe health problems, developmental delays and even death.
The work group recognized treatment involves various forms of medical food, low protein modified foods and supplements tailored individually and adjusting over time based on factors like age, pregnancy and illness.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
