What’s next?
“But whoever listens to me will
dwell secure and will be at
ease, without, dread of
disaster.”
- Proverbs 1:33

In what ways
does God Call
people in the
Bible?
We Are Going to Look at one instance
1 Samuel 3 : 1 - 10
What was God
teaching us
when he was
calling Samuel
in these ways?
 You can hear God speaking, but not recognize that it is
God. We may not recognize God's voice the first time we
hear it. Perhaps you identified it as your conscience or your
own thoughts.
 Sometimes a mentor can help us learn to recognize and
respond to God's voice. Eli recognizes what is happening
and instructs Samuel on what to say if this happens again (1
Samuel 3:9). Then the mentor confirms that it is indeed
God's voice that Samuel heard -- "It is the LORD" (1 Samuel
3:18)
 We must come before God as humble and obedient
servants if we want to hear what he is saying. It is quite
possible to hear without listening. In each of the four
Gospels, Jesus quotes Isaiah to explain his reason for
teaching in parables (Isaiah 6:9-10)
What does the
Bible say about
character?
 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young,
but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in
love, in faith and in purity. – 1 Timothy
4 : 12
 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith
goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge,
self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to
perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection;
and to mutual affection, love. - 2 Peter 1 : 5 – 7
Building Godly character is not about "earning" salvation through
works. We know that salvation is a free gift. That's where character
building comes in.
How to know what
God has planned for
our lives?
BELIEVE THAT GOD HAS A PLAN
Our lives aren’t random. The Bible says God
“created all things, and by [His] will they exist and
were created”
(Revelation 4:11).
The Lord was very deliberate when He created
you. No one has the exact personality,
characteristics, talents, and gifts that you do.
DAVID WRITES ABOUT THIS IN PSALM 139:
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me
in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am
fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are
Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My
frame was not hidden from You, when I was made
in secret, and skilfully wrought in the lowest parts
of the earth.
(Psalm 139:13–15)
THEN HE HAS THIS AMAZING PHRASE
And in Your book they all were written, the days
fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of
them. (Psalm 139:16)
From long before his birth, God had recorded
every one of David’s days in His book. And the
same is true for each of us.
We need to come into agreement with this truth
and start confessing it with our mouths. Instead of
saying that life is random, we can follow David’s
example by declaring that we are “fearfully and
wonderfully made,” and that “all of our days are
recorded in God’s book.”
ASK HIM TO REVEAL HIS PLAN
NOW THAT YOU’VE AGREED THAT GOD HAS
A PLAN
“come boldly to the throne of grace, that we
may obtain mercy and find grace to help in
time of need,”
(Hebrews 4:16)
AND ASK HIM TO REVEAL IT
The Lord did this for Jeremiah, telling him,
“before I formed you in the womb . . . I
ordained you a prophet to the nations”
(Jeremiah 1:5). Even if our destiny is not to
speak before kings, we can ask God to reveal
the gifts and desires He’s placed in us, and how
we can use them for His glory.
His calling includes full-time ministry, and
various combinations of them in different
seasons, or even other vocations. What you do
right after high school might not be what you
do for the rest of your life, but the Lord wants
to help lay a foundation for decades of faithful
obedience, no matter your calling.
SOMETIMES YOU WON’T GET THE FULL
PICTURE , BUT HE IS FAITHFUL TO REVEAL
NEXT STEPS THAT WE CAN TAKE.
THANK HIM FOR REVEALING HIS PLAN
He gives good gifts to His children (James 1:17)
and leads us “in paths of righteousness for His
name’s sake” (Psalm 23:3).
HE GIVES GOOD GIFTS TO HIS CHILDREN
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from
above, coming down from the Father of lights,
with whom there is no variation or shadow due
to change (James 1:17). Such leadership is
worthy of praise. We’re told to praise and thank
Him in the midst of our asking:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by
prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let
your requests be made known to God”
(Philippians 4:6).
THE PROCESS IS SIMPLE
1. Start agreeing that God has a plan
2. Ask Him to reveal it
3. Thank Him for doing so
Keep doing this until you have your answer.
Invite your parents, pastors, and trusted friends
into the process. Sometimes God will speak to
them about His plans for you. And remember
this promise: “You will seek Me and find Me,
when you search or Me with all your heart”
(Jeremiah 29:13).
