This literature review examines the implementation of preventive measures to reduce malaria among pregnant mothers in Uganda. The review analyzes 3 studies published within the last 10 years that show lower rates of malaria among mothers who used mosquito nets, repellents, indoor residual spraying and intermittent preventive treatment, compared to those who did not implement these measures. The review concludes that preventive measures are critical to reducing the high burden of malaria during pregnancy in Uganda and decreasing adverse birth outcomes.

This study compared the local availability and accessibility of healthy foods in neighborhoods in Madrid, Spain and Baltimore, US. Researchers used audits and GIS mapping to examine food store types, availability of healthy foods using indexes, and pedestrian access within 200m, 400m, and 800m of each neighborhood. The results showed Madrid had higher healthy food availability and fruit/vegetable indexes in stores, but Baltimore residents had greater access to stores within walking distance. The researchers concluded local agencies should promote interventions to improve small stores and markets and walkable environments.

Background & Objective: Worldwide, nearly 350 and125 million persons have chronic hepatitis B &C virus (HBV& HCV) infections, respectively. This study aimed to bridge the gap between knowledge of HBV & HCV infections and theirs prevalence among pregnant women, through assessing the impact of an educational intervention on knowledge of pregnant women toward HBV & HCV infections.
Methods: The study was a quasi-experimental one, 100 pregnant women were enrolled in the study they were in third trimester. Structured interviewing sheet, laboratory investigations, educational interventions and pre & posttest formats were utilized for the study.

It finds that while data is limited, studies show that seasonal influenza poses risks to pregnant women, including increased rates of hospitalization. This scholarly paper examines potential risk factors for residual infections of Schistosomiasis japonicum in endemic areas of Bohol, Philippines. The author conducted a nested case-control study to determine relationships between risk factors and residual infections. The results validated Bohol's integrated multi-component approach for control, emphasizing access to potable water, sanitation infrastructure, animal vector control, and health education in schools. While prevalence has reduced to under 1%, some residual infections remain. Future efforts should build on current strategies to achieve elimination of Schistosomiasis in Bohol.

Does Walkability differ by Area Sociodemographic profile? A study of Madrid City
This study examined the association between area-level sociodemographic characteristics and walkability in Madrid, Spain. The researchers analyzed 2,415 census sections and found that areas with higher percentages of residents with low education had lower walkability scores, while areas with higher percentages of foreign-born residents had higher walkability. Statistical analysis showed relationships between education level, percentage of foreign-born residents, and walkability components like population density, land use mix, and street connectivity. The results suggest urban policy to improve physical activity and reduce health inequalities should consider sociodemographic factors when designing walkable neighborhoods.

underlying social, economic, and political causes of poor health.

ABSTRACT: Primary health care was declared the model for global health policy at a 1978
meeting of health ministers and experts from around the world. Primary health care re-
quires a change in socioeconomic status, distribution of resources, a focus on health sys-
tem development, and emphasis on basic health services. Considered too idealistic and ex-
pensive, it was replaced with a disease-focused, selective model. After several years of
investment in vertical interventions, preventable diseases remain a major challenge for de-
veloping countries. The selective model has not responded adequately to the interrelation-
ship between health and socioeconomic development, and a rethinking of global health
policy is urgently needed.
T
he health care systems of many developing countries emerged from
colonial medical services that emphasized costly high-technology, urban-
based, curative care.1 When these countries became independent in the
1950s and 1960s, they inherited health care systems modeled after the systems in
industrialized nations.2 Public health programs of international development
agencies during this period were also largely targeted at eradicating specific dis-
eases such as smallpox, yaws, and malaria. Each disease eradication program oper-
ated autonomously, with its own administration and budget and very little inte-
gration into the larger health system.3 There were some successes during this
period (for example, eradication of smallpox and a decrease in tuberculosis).
However, these short-term interventions were not addressing poor populations’
overall disease burden.4 Analysts realized that although one disease might be con-
trolled or eliminated, recipients of that intervention might die of another disease
or its complications.5 The situation worsened into the early 1970s, as populations
continued to experience failing health outcomes with rising spending.6

The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
