In this lesson we examine what atheist are saying and promoting. We contrast that to the word of GOD. Both slides and audio can be found together at www.cmcoc.org
2. Objective of lesson
1. What atheist are saying?
2. Atheism offers what?
3. What is your moral guide?
4. What does God offer?
3. What atheist say?
• Being an atheist means you’re free to form
your own opinions, rather than having your
outlook colored by a belief system that
tells you what you should think.
• Being an atheist means you don’t have to
think of yourself as a sinful wretch who
can never do anything right.
4. What atheist say?
• Christians are atheistic towards all gods
except theirs; atheists just go one god
further. Why not also pose the question of
what are the advantages of Christians not
believing in other god(s)?
5. What does Atheism offer?
• Temporary pleasure of sin---lying,
stealing, cursing, fornication, murder,
idolatry
• Allows you and everyone else to be your
own god---I determine if lying is morally
right!
• Chaos!—if everyone lies to each other
then we have chaos!
6. What does Atheism offer?
• A false sense of reality—I can do this and
so what, there is nothing left after I die.
• 1 Timothy 5:24 Some men's sins are
evident beforehand, going before them to
judgment; and some men they follow after.
7. What does atheism offer?
• Hedonism---that which pleases the flesh!
• Boys fondling boys, girls fondling girls---why
not? Anything that is self gratifying
• All—atheists are not like this but some are and
who can tell them they are wrong or what basis
do you have to tell them?
• My basis is the Creator of the universe says it is
wrong.
8. What does God offer
1. A moral compass—a basis for good and
evil
2. A clear conscience—from evil and sin
3. Justice to those who have been wronged
4. Eternal life
9. A moral compass—a basis for good
and evil---murder
• Matthew 5:21 You have heard that it was said by
them of old time (ex.20:13), You shall not kill; and
whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the
judgment:
• Matthew 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is
angry with his brother without a cause shall be in
danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to
his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council:
but whosoever shall say, You fool, shall be in danger
of hell fire.
10. A moral compass—a basis for good
and evil--adultery
• Matthew 5:27 You have heard that it was
said by them of old time, You shall not
commit adultery:
• Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That
whosoever looks on a woman to lust after
her has committed adultery with her
already in his heart.
11. A moral compass—a basis for good
and evil---keep your word
• Matthew 5:33 Again, you have heard that
it has been said by them of old time, You
shall not perjure yourself, but shall perform
unto the Lord your oaths:
• Matthew 5:34 But I say unto you, Swear
not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's
throne:
12. A moral compass—a basis for good
and evil---lying
• Matthew 5:33 Again, you have heard that
it has been said by them of old time, You
shall not perjure yourself, but shall perform
unto the Lord your oaths:
13. A clear conscience—from evil and
sin
• 1 Peter 3:21 The like figure unto which
even baptism does also now save us (not
the putting away of the filth of the flesh,
but the answer of a good conscience
toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus
Christ:
• Judas---Hitler, killed themselves--
14. A clear conscience—from evil and
sin
• Romans 6:20-23 For when you were the
servants of sin, you were free from
righteousness. What fruit had you then in those
things of which you are now ashamed? for the
end of those things is death. But now being
made free from sin, and become servants to
God, you have your fruit unto holiness, and the
end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is
death; but the gift of God is eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
15. Justice to those who have been
wronged
• Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge
not yourselves, but rather give place unto
wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine;
I will repay, says the Lord.
16. Justice to those who have been
wronged
• 2 Thessalonians 1:3-4 We are bound to
thank God always for you, brethren, as it
is fitting, because your faith grows
exceedingly, and the love of every one of
you all toward each other abounds; So
that we ourselves boast of you in the
churches of God for your patience and
faith in all your persecutions and
tribulations that you endure:
17. Justice to those who have been
wronged
• 2 Thessalonians 1:5-6 Which is a
manifest token of the righteous judgment
of God, that you may be counted worthy of
the kingdom of God, for which you also
suffer: Seeing it is a righteous thing with
God to recompense tribulation to them
that trouble you;
