Emotional self-harm is a harmful pattern of coping that parallels physical self-mutilation. It involves engaging in destructive thoughts and behaviors that undermine our emotional well-being. Just as physical self-harm can cause physical pain, emotional self-harm inflicts emotional pain upon ourselves through self-sabotage. It manifests as negative self-perception, feelings of inadequacy, and engaging in self-destructive actions. These actions can include seeking out abusive relationships, prioritizing others' needs over our own, and cultivating a sense of unworthiness. Additionally, emotional self-harm often involves negative self-talk, where we constantly criticize and belittle ourselves, perpetuating a cycle of self-inflicted emotional suffering.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

How to Get iOS 16 on an iPhone X or newer | Tips and
tricks for iOS 16
Updated May 19, 2022, Updated May 20, 2022, Published October 17,
2020, Last updated: April 29, 2021, 6:00 am PDT If you've upgraded your
2. iPhone from iOS 10 to at least iOS 11 or higher, then you might be
wondering how to get all of the new features and improvements. With just
two years left for iOS 16, here's everything we know so far about what's
coming to iOS 16. So let’s take a look around…
Here are some highlights as well as tips and tricks
Tips And Tricks
A Quick Comparison Between iOS 16 & iOS 15 (2022) The first major
feature that sets iOS 16 apart from its predecessors is the introduction of
the Continuity Camera. In other words, when taking pictures and videos
3. with Apple devices in portrait or landscape orientation, this feature
automatically switches between the still camera and video recording if any
motion is detected. In addition to this continuous-cam mode, there’s also
4K HDR Night Mode on both iPhones 13 and 13 Pro. You can even adjust
exposure by swiping or tapping on a subject to bring up your app’s editing
tools. One notable difference between iOS 14 and 12 was the ability to tap
on the shutter button twice to view Portrait mode. This change brought
back the old “Take action” button so long ago! On both iPhones 13 and
iPhone 13 Pro, there’s a 3x optical zoom, and most other iPhone 7/7 Plus
models, which now have 5x, will do so too. A big upgrade in Photos. Both
iPhones 13 and 13 Pro can now take better photos than ever before.
The Best Gift For Christmas Marry
iPhone
4. A Chrismas Marry
There’s no more need for the Face ID system to unlock
your iPhone; unlocking happens naturally when the
device detects motion within the frame. For those who
5. prefer their privacy above everything else, they can skip
face recognition entirely. Your iPhone’s battery life has
never been longer. Battery life has always been excellent,
but now it lasts forever. It’s almost like being able to hold
your phone in one hand while walking somewhere on foot
without it draining its batteries completely. Of course,
having unlimited apps is great, but the real draw-card is
going beyond these capabilities now. And I’m not only
talking about the amount of stuff that can run on the App
Library. Sure, you might not want every single app under
your control, but now there’s something called Shared
Apps that allow users to access shared resources across
apps. These are basically shortcuts designed for specific
needs or tasks – for example, media on your desktop or
the Home screen. As mentioned before, you’ll use them
for things such as managing messages, checking the
weather, listening to music, playing games, etc… Some
people have complained about the inability to find certain
files in Safari, and there’s a lot more to learn. Not sure
6. what everyone wants at launch? Check out all the details
below on what each of the four versions will offer you
when your choice is made…
iOS 16.0/iSO15
iOS 16.0 - Privacy Settings There’s nothing surprising about iOS15
changing the default setting that many people use when using their
phones to see information about friends & family members as well as your
location. But the way that the settings interface itself changed this year is
quite impressive. Gone were the buttons that looked like numbers.
Instead, it looks like a menu. If the navigation menu isn't working for you,
just go into Settings & Privacy and click General. Then Under iOS Devices,
click More Options. Finally, scroll down until you see Find my Device. From
7. there, select Find My Mobile Device. This should bring you the option to
find your lost wallet, keys, etc… iOS 16.1 - Cinematic Video Calling
Previously available via AirDrop, now it works directly through the
Messages app on the iPhone. At launch, the feature lets you connect up to
three people at once. When someone initiates the call, that person can join
the group chat too, just like they would if they were calling themselves.
They'll be seen by who they're calling even if they're away or busy, so they
won't miss the conversation. By clicking Connect, they'll appear on the
Screen Sharing screen, where they'll be able to continue chatting with
whatever people are talking to or joining the group chat. That means
they'll be able to share screens with anyone in the chat, including other
people who aren’t connected to the call. If you want to see who else is
calling, then tap the plus icon for their number under Recents. There's also
another function that’s available when you tap Connect. Tap Show Calls,
which should bring up the option to show calls in full. From there, you can
choose whether you want to hide the ringtone or notification sound. Once
it's done, you can go ahead and mute the contacts, or choose whether they
should be silent or play while the call is on the line. To cancel, just swipe
the microphone icon in the bottom right corner. iOS 16.2 - Live Photo
Captions Currently in beta testing among our testers for iOS 16, Live
Captioning is the same concept as live captions and brings in text in place
of audio. Basically, users can record what appears on the screen, and then
narrate it once a minute or two later. Like other changes made in iOS 15,
Live Captioning does not require iCloud storage, meaning that users don't
8. have to worry about syncing it over time. Speaking of syncing, Live
Captioning doesn't work with iMessage and WhatsApp because they ask
users to pay extra money for an additional service. However, Live
Captioning does work across social networks through your carrier
services (i.e., Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram).
Users are notified every time there's a change, so they'll know immediately
before sending anything to the person. Since this feature is meant to help
enhance engagement on social media, it will only be available in US
English. While Apple hasn't disclosed pricing, the cost varies based on
availability. iOS 16.3 - Multiroom Audio While multiroom audio isn't exactly
new, Apple finally added it to your Apple Music account with iOS 15. At
launch, it seems to work like regular mono audio and will keep getting
improved until it gets officially integrated. However, while some third
parties offer similar functionality already, Apple's own implementation
remains fairly basic. To start off, there are three controls found on either
side of the main interface. Each one helps you switch between stereo and
surround sound depending on which one it's tied to. Additionally, there's
the "Start playback" button on the top, the volume rocker button on either
side, a gear toggle in the middle, and a toggle for volume and speaker
level. Lastly, there's a slider in the centre of your home screen that should
let you set which track to play when you use Siri. In order to make it more
convenient, in Settings, you can tap Browse Albums & Songs, then turn on
Control Center. From there, you can pick your preferred output settings.
9. Unfortunately, you can't assign tracks to speakers in Control Center, but
that could soon arrive sometime in the future. Moving on to multiroom
audio, the company behind the idea estimates that Apple's hardware could
handle 30% louder stereo than current technology. Multiroom audio
doesn't really exist yet, but rumours suggest that it may come to iPads and
Macs shortly. Still, if it didn't quite make that much noise, it's likely to start
helping with overall performance later. It doesn't include Dolby Atmos
support, but Apple promised Dolby Vision headphones to be added soon.
No doubt Apple will add support for non-Apple devices down the road.
Another thing worth noting is that starting today, Android developers
using Google services on their platforms can import content from popular
streaming sites such as Tubi, Shout, Prime Video, Amazon, Vudu, and
more. Apple doesn't have such functionality, unfortunately. Also, speaking
of supporting devices other than your iPhone, Apple has confirmed to
Android users that the upcoming iPadOS software releases will likely
feature TouchID.
