Welding is a common method of joining metals that involves fusing two pieces together. It carries several hazards including impact, penetration, harmful fumes and heat/light radiation. Welding is considered high risk, especially in operating plants, but risks can be reduced through various defenses including training, barriers, permits, communication, assessments, PPE, supervision and emergency preparedness. Proper PPE like welding helmets, gloves, aprons and leg covers are required to prevent burns from hot metal and radiation. Spark containment and protecting others is also important for safety.
