1. Unidentified foundering
object
Looking like an orbiting spaceship, a stingless
jellyfish swims just under the surface of a
remote lake in Surigao, Philippines, on Feb.
3. The creatures, which vary in color from a
bright yellow to a bluish white, are found in
only a few places in the world including this
lake and another in Micronesian Palau. It is
believed that the species became cut off from
the sea and their natural predators, possibly
by volcanic activity, many thousands of years
ago.
Birds of a feather
A group of spectacled teals fly over the Lake
of Geumgang in Gunsan, about 168 miles
south of Seoul, South Korea, in this photo

Water bug
A partially submerged taxi is seen on a

Mexico City. Heavy rains swelled a canal,
causing the wall to collapse.
2. Bright lights, big
airplane
A new Airbus A380 airliner leaves the paint
shop hangar at the Airbus facility in
Finkenwerder near Hamburg, Germany, on
Feb. 5. The first A380 aircraft for Lufthansa
will be delivered later this year.
Olympic rings are illuminated in the harbor
outside the Vancouver Convention Centre.
The 2010 Games are expected to draw 5,500
athletes and officials and 250,000 spectators.
Skiers and snowboarders gather on top of
Whistler Mountain. Whistler is the official
alpine skiing venue for the 2010 Olympic
Games. The site will also be hosting Nordic,
Sliding and Paralympic events.
High-tech repairman
NASA astronaut Mike Massimino peers
