A brain tumour is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in the brain or tissues surrounding it. There are many types of brain tumours, which can be cancerous (malignant) or non-cancerous. A meningioma is a common type of brain tumour that originates from the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Most meningiomas grow slowly over many years without symptoms, but can sometimes cause disability by compressing nearby brain tissue or vessels. Signs of meningioma include headaches, vision changes, hearing issues, seizures and weakness. Treatment depends on the tumour type, size, location and the patient's health, and may involve surgery, radiation or chemotherapy.
