Website Work By: Justin ,Alfred and Raghav
Why should we use websites? Because websites have a variety of information that you can use and if you don't like it you can go to another one. They can be very efficient.    That is why we use websites.   But the major problems about websites is that we don't know whether the content is true or not. And so that brings us to the aim of the presentation. Our aim is to give you enough information after you see this presentation that you are absolutely confident about which sites you confide in.
First of all, we have to see if the website is giving you enough and useful information. For example, if you are searching about football and your website starts giving you information about rugby then it is not the website we want.     Then, after you have found the website that gives you the information that you want, you have to check if the information is true. There are many ways of doing that. Which websites should we use?
How do we know that the website is good?   First of all, you have to check the person who made the website. The name is usually shown at the bottom of the webpage.                                                                 <------  This is where the authors name                                         should be. When you find it, then  click on it and see if it is true or not. You can also ask people such as your parents and your teachers if they have ever heard about this person. If the whole website doesn't have the author's name, then it does not necessarily mean that the website is a bad one.
How do we know that the website is good? Cont... Next, we have to see if the information on the site is the same as many more. If it is, then it is very likely to be correct. You should also see if the author has given any sources like articles and books. You can check this in a library or on a search engine like google or yahoo. Then you have to see whether the information is up to date or not. To check that, you have to see at the bottom of the page and it will show you. If the date it has been published or updated is quite recent, then it should be okay. But be careful, people might just update it to change spelling mistakes or something like that.
How do we know that the website is good? Cont... Next we have to see if the information is biased in any way, or tendentious towards one point if view. For example, if there was a website in which they said that oranges are the best and eat nothing but oranges because they are the best for you. If it is that way then it means that it is a very bad website because it is talking about only one point  of view i.e. oranges are the best and not that there should be a balanced diet eating food. You may have to think about this one.
How do we know that the website is good? Cont... Then you have to see if the website has given you choices. If the website has only given you one choice to do then it is not a very good website. For example, if the website is about how to cure stomach pains, and it says that the only way to cure stomach pains is to take this medicine, then it is not a good website because it has given you just one choice. It should be giving you all the medicines that you can take or any kind of other things you can do, but not just one suggestion.
Now that we have given you all the ways to see if a website is good or not, lets have a little test!       Can you list all the ways that you can find out if a website is good or not without looking back at the slides?   Should you only use one website to check what you need?           How many times did we use the abbreviation, cont...? I bet you don't know this one!
Answers! Is it clear who has written the information? Are the aims of the site clear? Does the site achieve its aims? Is the site relevant to me? Can the information be checked? When was the site produced? Is the information biased in any way? Does the site tell you about choices open to you?             No, you should see as many sites as you can so you can cross-reference. 3!
Thank you for watching our presentation. I hope you have learnt a lot from it.
