1. Introduction
Cells are the basic unit of life. Every living thing is made up of cells. However
cells do not live very long so cells must constantly divide to replace dying cells.
When you damage your cells they must divide to take care of the damage. Even
from the time you were a baby your cells have been dividing so you can grow. The
division of cells is called mitosis. There are four stages in cell division. In this web
quest we will be learning about all of the stages and what happens in all of them.
Task
Using the following instructions you will learn the different stages in mitosis.
You will be able to explain what happens in each stage and identify the stages.
Process
First things first watch this video on the process of mitosis. Pay close
attention to the video. You may take notes on the video and use them for other
activities later on.
Mitosis Video
After watching the video go to the following website and run the animation a few
times watch as the cell divides the different stages it will go through.
Cells Alive
Now that you’ve got a little understanding of mitosis go to the following link and
play the matching game. It will be using real pictures of cells in cell division so be
careful it can be tricky.
Cell matching game
Now test your self on the different stages by matching what happens in the stage
with the name of the stage.
Matching Stages
Ok finally visit the link below and go to the quiz tab. The quiz is only three very
simple questions. Remember you may use your notes on this assignment.

Conclusion
Now after doing the activities provide you should have a basic grasp of mitosis and
how it works. You should be able to identify the different stages of mitosis, what
happens in those stages, and what they look like.
