Asking the Right Questions, Making the Right Decisions: Selecting Accessibl...Aisha Jackson
Although there are a plethora of web-based learning tools faculty can select from, not all of them will help students learn. There are a number of reasons for this--from the way the course was designed, to the strategies that were used to integrate the technology. This session will focus on one particular component that can impact student learning: accessibility. By the end of this session, participants will be able to: describe issues that poorly designed web-based learning tools cause when being accessed by assistive technologies, list core questions to ask vendors related to the accessibility of their tools, and make informed decisions when selecting academic technologies.
Information literacy through inquiry: using problem-based learning in informa...Alan Carbery
This paper presents the findings of a largely action research project, introducing problem-based information literacy instruction for final year undergraduate nursing and engineering students in Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland. This paper is based on a research dissertation written for MA in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

The annual conference of the Association of Moving Image Archivists is a vibrant and dynamic event that brings together archivists, academics and industry professionals. This year, St. Louis is the host city for the AMIA Conference. On the second day of the event, Johan Oomen (Sound and Vision) presented the Images for the Future project. The presentation focussed on on user generated video and user generated metadata. Open Images, the Waisda? tagging game, the Beeld and Geluid wiki and Video Active have been presented as example cases.
The mass market for camera phones has increased the supply of user-generated video. Traditional methods of personal video distribution, such as making a DVD to show to friends at home, are unsuited to the low resolution and high volume of camera phone clips.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
