In what was does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
When initially discussing our style of video we decided that due to us picking a non-mainstream song by a relatively unknown artist we would stick with an unconventional, abstract style of video.  We took inspiration from videos by artists such as James Blake and Rihanna. We noticed that they used many editing effects as well as unexplainable mise en scene.
We wanted to avoid creating a ‘typical’ music video as this idea has been incredibly exhausted within the industry. We tried to become the opposite of videos such as Girls Aloud – I’ll Stand By You and Sugababes – Too Lost In You We felt that these artists stuck to typical conventions leading to a boring music video that has no individuality or excitement.
Within our music video we went against the ‘pop conventions’ and challenged stereotypes. The artist of our chosen song Jai Paul, doesn’t have a video therefore we felt that we were creating something fresh and individual without copying any ideas.   We used editing effects such as slow motion, fast forward and reverse.  We shots scenes in locations such as adam, a forest and a blue washed studio. We felt that the ‘randomness’ of the mise en scene really emphasised our style.

We challenge conventions !!

  • 1. In what was does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  • 2. When initially discussing our style of video we decided that due to us picking a non-mainstream song by a relatively unknown artist we would stick with an unconventional, abstract style of video. We took inspiration from videos by artists such as James Blake and Rihanna. We noticed that they used many editing effects as well as unexplainable mise en scene.
  • 3. We wanted to avoid creating a ‘typical’ music video as this idea has been incredibly exhausted within the industry. We tried to become the opposite of videos such as Girls Aloud – I’ll Stand By You and Sugababes – Too Lost In You We felt that these artists stuck to typical conventions leading to a boring music video that has no individuality or excitement.
  • 4. Within our music video we went against the ‘pop conventions’ and challenged stereotypes. The artist of our chosen song Jai Paul, doesn’t have a video therefore we felt that we were creating something fresh and individual without copying any ideas. We used editing effects such as slow motion, fast forward and reverse. We shots scenes in locations such as adam, a forest and a blue washed studio. We felt that the ‘randomness’ of the mise en scene really emphasised our style.
