Jesus’ Triumphal Entry
Last week we talked about His triumphal entry into
Jerusalem and how He was welcomed as King. This
week everything changed. See next slide.
John 19: 1-2(NIV)
1 Then Pilate took Jesus and had
Him flogged. 2 The soldiers
twisted together a crown of
thorns and put it on His head.
They clothed Him in a purple
robe 3 and went up to Him again
and again, saying, “Hail, king of
the Jews!” And they slapped Him
in the face.
Isaiah 53: 3-7(NIV)3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
He was despised, and we held Him in low esteem.
4 Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet
we considered Him punished by God, stricken by Him,
and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced for our
transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the
punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by
His wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have
gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and
the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was
oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open his mouth;
He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep
before its shearers is silent, so He did not open his
mouth.
Luke 24: 1-4(NIV)
1 On the first day of the week, very early
in the morning, the women took the spices
they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2
They found the stone rolled away from the
tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did
not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4
While they were wondering about this,
suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed
like lightning stood beside them.
Luke 24: 5-8(NIV)
5 In their fright the women bowed down
with their faces to the ground, but the men
said to them, “Why do you look for the
living among the dead? 6 He is not here;
He has risen! Remember how He told you,
while He was still with you in Galilee: 7
‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to
the hands of sinners, be crucified and on
the third day be raised again.’ ” 8 Then
they remembered His words.
Luke 24: 50-53(NIV)
50 When He had led them out to the
vicinity of Bethany, He lifted up His
hands and blessed them. 51 While He
was blessing them, He left them and was
taken up into heaven. 52 Then they
worshiped Him and returned to
Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they
stayed continually at the temple, praising
God.
Acts 1:1- 3(NIV)
1 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote
about all that Jesus began to do and to
teach 2 until the day He was taken up to
heaven, after giving instructions through
the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had
chosen. 3 After His suffering, He
presented Himself to them and gave many
convincing proofs that He was alive. He
appeared to them over a period of forty
days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
Question
What did He do
during those 40
days?
Two things
Question
What 2 things did He do
during those 40 days?
1- Presented proof
2- Spoke of The
Kingdom
Acts 1:1- 2(AMP)
1 In the former account [which I
prepared], O Theophilus, I made [a
continuous report] dealing with all the
things which Jesus began to do and to
teach 2 Until the day when He
ascended, after He through the Holy
Spirit had instructed and commanded
the apostles (special messengers)
whom He had chosen.
3 To them also He showed Himself
alive after His passion (His suffering
in the garden and on the cross) by [a
series of] many convincing
demonstrations [unquestionable
evidences and infallible proofs],
appearing to them during forty days
and talking [to them] about the things
of the kingdom of God.
Acts 1:3(AMP)
Question
What 2 things did He do
during those 40 days?
1- Presented proofs that
He was alive
2- Spoke of The Kingdom
Question
Why should we believe
in the resurrection?
1- Presented many
proofs that He was alive

appeared to James His brother
6- His disciples minus Thomas
7- His disciples with Thomas
8- In Galilee and ate with His disciples
9- To over 500 according to Paul in 1 Corinthians
Question
Why should we believe in
the resurrection?
1- Presented many proofs
that He was alive
2- The Heart of the Gospel
1 Now, brothers and sisters, I want
to remind you of the gospel I
preached to you, which you received
and on which you have taken your
stand. 2 By this gospel you are
saved, if you hold firmly to the word
I preached to you. Otherwise, you
have believed in vain.
1 Corinthians 15(NIV)
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first
importance: that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures, 4 that He was buried,
that He was raised on the third day according to
the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas,
and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, He appeared
to more than five hundred of the brothers and
sisters at the same time, most of whom are still
living, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then He
appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and
last of all He appeared to me also, as to one
abnormally born.
1 Corinthians 15(NIV)
19 If in this life only we have hope in
Christ, we are of all men most
miserable. 20 But now is Christ risen
from the dead, and become the
firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For
since by man came death, by man
came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in
Christ shall all be made alive.
1 Corinthians 15(NIV)
Question
