Sermon Slide Deck: "Jesus and the Resurrection" (Acts 17:16-34)New City Church
Christianity is established not as some esoteric idea, but on the basis of an historical event in history.
This message was given on March 27, 2016 (Easter Sunday) at New City Church in Calgary by Pastor John Ferguson. For more info, please visit: www.newcitychurch.ca
The resurrection of jesus is a prevarication (spoken against), a plethora (great number) of witnesses, a proven fact, a purpose to save us. a plea to live worthy, a pattern for us to follow, a power from God, a promise for us, to believe in, a pledge by our savior.
What would our world be like had Christ never lived? What if He had not died or rose again? Unbelievers face a chaotic world without the benefit of Jesus and his peace.
The most important thing to believe in is what Jesus Christ did for you. Without the sacrifice Jesus made, we would have no opportunity to have a relationship with God both now and in the afterlife.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffer-ed the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, Philp. 3:7-11

62. 1 Cor. 15:12-19 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not
63. 1 Cor. 15:12-19 been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. Moreover, we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we witnessed against God that He has raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.
