The arrest of Jesus on the Mount of Olives presents some rather troubling questions about who Jesus is. Jesus' response are not at all what we might expect nor is the response of the Roman soldiers characteristic of an overwhelming military force. Peter's response, however, does seem a normal response, but he's rebuked for taking such a stand. What questions do you have about Easter?
“The Bible seeks to catch our lives up in a grand adventure, a great saga of God’s dealing with humanity – a saga begun in God’s journey with Israel, continued in the surprising call of God even unto Gentiles. The church is the product of that story.” – Willimon

Jesus was amazed when he saw that the Roman centurion had faith, far greater than that of even the Jews... you never know where we will find the faith to be faithful

This message was delivered at LifePointe Church on Sunday, March 6, 2016.

Lesson 12 of 26 in a series of New Testament Vistas. This sermon on the Lord's Supper was presented March 11, 2012, at Palm Desert Church of Christ, by Dale Wells.
Questions About the Lord's Supper - In the last 100 years we could identify numerous "sects" within the Lord's church as a direct result of the division over various aspects of the Lord's Supper. So, how do we answer these questions?
Attitude - We all have it and sometimes it's just not good! We know what to do when our attitude is destructive, but often we don't realize that we have a destructive attitude.
This is a study of Jesus being unorthodox. He went against the accepted rules of the Pharisees and it aggravated them to the point of wanting Him crucified.. Jesus did not come to conform but to transform.

The Parable of the Sower and the Seed (Luke 8) is about radical transformation from dirt to new life that happens from God's Word and the dangers that come for those seeking spiritual growth!
We've got to allow God to strip down all the years of grime and cheap paint piled on top of each other. He needs to get down to the bare original so He can begin to fill the cracks, sand the rough edges, and make our hearts beautiful again. He’s already looked beneath the layers and has determined that we're all worth doing over.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. Do you not know that in a race all
the runners run, but only one gets
the prize? Run in such a way as to
get the prize. Everyone who
competes goes into strict training.
They do it to get a crown that will
not last, but we do it to get a
crown that will last forever. 1 Cor.
9:24-25
3. I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7
4. Now that same day two of them
were going to a village called
Emmaus, about seven miles from
Jerusalem. They were talking with
each other about everything that
had happened. As they talked
and discussed these things with
each other, Jesus himself came
up and walked along with them;
but they were kept from
recognizing him.
He asked them, “What are you
discussing together as you walk
along?”
5. They stood still, their faces
downcast. One of them, named
Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the
only one visiting Jerusalem who
does not know the things that
have happened there in these
days?”
“What things?” he asked.
“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they
replied. “He was a prophet,
powerful in word and deed
before God and all the people.
6. The chief priests and our
rulers handed him over to be
sentenced to death, and they
crucified him; but we had hoped
that he was the one who was
going to redeem Israel. And what
is more, it is the third day since
all this took place. In addition,
some of our women amazed
us. They went to the tomb early
this morning but didn’t find his
body. They came and told us that
they had seen a vision of angels,
who said he was alive.
7. Then some of our companions
went to the tomb and found it
just as the women had said, but
they did not see Jesus.”
He said to them, “How foolish
you are, and how slow to believe
all that the prophets have
spoken! Did not the Messiah
have to suffer these things and
then enter his glory?” And
beginning with Moses and all the
Prophets, he explained to them
what was said in all the Scriptures
concerning himself.
8. As they approached the village to
which they were going, Jesus
continued on as if he were going
farther. But they urged him
strongly, “Stay with us, for it is
nearly evening; the day is almost
over.” So he went in to stay with
them. When he was at the table
with them, he took bread, gave
thanks, broke it and began to give
it to them. Then their eyes were
opened and they recognized
him, and he disappeared from
their sight.
9. They asked each other, “Were not
our hearts burning within us
while he talked with us on the
road and opened the Scriptures
to us?”
They got up and returned at once
to Jerusalem. There they found
the Eleven and those with them,
assembled together and saying,
“It is true! The Lord has risen and
has appeared to Simon.”
10. Then the two told what had
happened on the way, and how
Jesus was recognized by them
when he broke the bread.
Luke 24:13-35
