FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA FRATERNITY COUNCIL PARTNERS WITH
SEXUAL TRAUMA SERVICES OF THE MIDLANDS
Columbia, SC (March 4) –The University of South Carolina Fraternity Council (Fraternity Council) is
proud to announce its partnership with Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM) at our first Kickoff
Event on Tuesday March 17, 2015 from 6-8pm in the Russell House University Union Ballroom.
After learning of recent news stories related to sexual assault and Greek Life, leaders of Fraternity Council
decided to take a proactive stance against it. Fraternity council is leading an innovative partnership with
STSM, a non-profit organization focused on sexual assault prevention and rehabilitation. Fraternity Council
is committed to ensuring all members receive sexual violence prevention education and know how to safely
intervene as bystanders.
As part of this collaboration, Fraternity Council is making a donation of $10,000 to support STSM’s Walk a
Mile in Their Shoes. On Tuesday March 17, 2015 Fraternity Council will announce this partnership at a
kickoff rally in the University of South Carolina’s Russell House Ballroom at 6:00 PM. Tim Bryson,
Fraternity Council President, said, “We want to ensure our members have access to every possible resource
that will work to eliminate interpersonal violence. All of Greek Life at USC is committed to creating a safe
space for our fellow students.”
The sixth annual Walk a Mile In Their Shoes will be held on April 15, 2015 at the South Carolina State
House. Men, women and children are encouraged to participate, either individually or in teams. Prizes will
be awarded to top fundraising team, most creative shoe, top Greek Life fundraising team and much more.
For more information on Walk a Mile In Their Shoes, please check out www.stsm.org.
The University of South Carolina Fraternity Council is composed of representatives from each fraternity
chapter to advocate the needs of its members, to commit to enhancing the benefits of membership, and to
educate our members and university about our purposes. We strive to lead the Greek community as we
further to exemplify our values of scholarship, leadership, service and friendship.
Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM), formerly named Rape Crisis Network, is a private,
nonprofit, United Way member agency committed to providing free, direct services to survivors of sexual
assault and abuse, including 24-hour crisis hotline, hospital accompaniment, court accompaniment, personal
advocacy, individual and group counseling and education about sexual trauma issues.
