Editor's Notes
Good Morning everyone. I'm so happy to be here at Northwestern Technologies. Today I will introduce social media to all of you.
Today I hope to educate and empower you with social media. Today we will discuss what social media is, the benefits to social media, the many opportunities with social media, and how social media relates to the IT industry.
In a world with smart phones, tablets, and social networking online, marketing has shifted to a multi-person conversation. This is social media in terms of marketing on a corporate level. Social media is defined as forms of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content on a website. Social media became possible with the release of Web 2.0. Since that time there have been many social networking sites released. One of the best examples I can think of is Facebook. Facebook utilizes the business side as well as a social side to networking. Social media is becoming popular with helping companies brand themselves. Imagine people all over the world seeing your business logo as it is passed from person to person through likes and shares.
Some good questions for any company to ask are
Is your business easy to find online?
Are you active where target customers visit online? Examples(Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, pinterest, Etc)
You may be asking what are the benefits of social media. There are a lot of benefits for any business with social media but lets talk about how it will help Northwestern Technologies. One of the major increases is customer awareness. In a study conducted in 2013 by SocialMediaExaminer.com the results showed that most companies reported a 47% increase in customer awareness. Imagine having 47% more people aware of your business and what it can offer.
This leads to increases in sales, clients, and Branding of Northwestern Technologies. In the same study it was found that the top two benefits of social media marketing are increasing exposure and increasing
traffic. A significant 89% of all marketers indicated that their social media efforts have generated more exposure for their businesses. Increasing traffic was the second major benefit, with 75% reporting positive results. (Stelzner, 2013, p. 17) Sites like Facebook make it easier to stay connected with clients.
When taking advantage of opportunities you have to change the way you work, your budgets, the tools used, and the way you’ve organized your company. Boundaries between areas such as sales, marketing, communication and customer service are blurred and often times cross.
Great customer service impacts sales to a larger extent now that customers have a voice and it is shared over social channels such as Facebook and Twitter. Communication and Marketing are now coming from customers and their extended networks.
Your company is impacted by this voice because of reviews, ratings, and shares within the network. When something goes viral it is shared with millions of viewers on sites such as YouTube.
Information Technology is a cutting edge field that is always on the move with the latest and greatest technology. There are 2 areas of social media that apply to the IT industry the most. These are collaboration and customer service. Collaboration is always helpful. The more people working together the better. Who here has not utilized drop box or Google apps? I know drop box has always helped me with backing up and sharing files.
Customer service is always important. With social media customers rate your service and recommend or Like your page. In a world where people spend more time on tablets and smart phones who wouldn’t want their business at the tap or swipe of a finger. It used to be that word of mouth was the best advertisement. People trust people they know. Social media is the new word of mouth.
94% of business owners reduced the marketing expense by using social media outlets.
In conclusion social media is one the latest and greatest ways to grow a business, promote a brand, and Increase sales. It will allow your company to expand in a ways that is cost effective. It promotes better communication with each and every person who is connected with social media. I know that I will be using social media to promote my business and I encourage you to do the same.
