Location-based services 2nd in Gartners Top 10 Consumer Mobile Applications

Location-based services (LBS) form part of context-aware services, a
service that Gartner expects will be one of the most disruptive in the next
few years. Gartner predicts that the LBS user base will grow globally from
96 million in 2009 to more than 526 million in 2012.

LBS is ranked No. 2 in Gartner’s top 10 because of its perceived high user
value and its influence on user loyalty. Its high user value is the result of its
ability to meet a range of needs, ranging from productivity and goal fulfillment
    to social networking and entertainment.

Carnegie Mellon

         Web 2.0-focused web site redesign

        Goal:

The campaign’s goal was to increase the visibility of
Carnegie Mellon online and increase brand awareness
      among students and alumni.

Thursday, October 28, 2010
Tactics:

The university intended to highlight its professors, alumni,
students, and curriculum by launching a series of online
videos. it also hoped to connect on a deeper and viral level
with its 70,000 + alumni to help build the university’s
presence and outreach, offline and online.

“We recognized that we needed to engage with our intended
audience on their terms,” said Marilyn Kail, assistant VP
for marketing communications. “Prospective students are
cynical about typical hard-sell marketing. They trust their
peers. They appreciate entertainment. This is why social
       media marketing worked so well.”

Social media Success

What is Carnegie Mellon’s social media strategy?

Thursday, October 28, 2010
The Carnegie Mellon University formula for social media success
                             A one-of-a-kind university

   - You cannot control the conversation but you can participate in it.

   - Enabling collaboration among your organization’s stakeholders can result in powerful
outcomes. encourage communication and forwarding of content to extend the reach of
   your message.

  - Hope for the unexpected. If that does happen, take full advantage; for example, Carnegie
Mellon sub- sequently adjusted its youTube channel homepage by placing the successful
  video front and center.

   - Messaging needs to be Genuine and engaging; it cannot be ad- speak or otherwise be
   contrived.

KHAN ACADEMY

                     E-Learning success

Thursday, October 28, 2010
With just a computer and a pen-tablet-mouse, one can educate the world! Even beer, the content
never goes old. My (or your) great-great-great grandchildren could learn from the very same videos!

  - The Khan Academy is a not-for-profit educational organization created and sustained by Salman Khan.

 - Mission: "Providing a high quality education to anyone, anywhere".

  - The Academy supplies a free online collection of more than 1,600 videos on mathematics, science,
  history, and economics.

  - Vision: He has a vision of turning the academy into a charter school:
This could be the DNA for a physical school where students spend 20 percent of their day watching
videos and doing self-paced exercises and the rest of the day building robots or painting pictures or
  composing music or whatever.

Bill Gates the newest fan of Sal Khan..
“This guy is amazing”, "It is awesome how much he has done with very little in the way of resources." Gates said.

With just acomputer and a pen-tablet-mouse, one can educate the world! Even beer, the content never goes old. My (or your) great-great-great grandchildren could learn from the very same videos! - The Khan Academy is a not-for-profit educational organization created and sustained by Salman Khan. - Mission: "Providing a high quality education to anyone, anywhere". - The Academy supplies a free online collection of more than 1,600 videos on mathematics, science, history, and economics. - Vision: He has a vision of turning the academy into a charter school: This could be the DNA for a physical school where students spend 20 percent of their day watching videos and doing self-paced exercises and the rest of the day building robots or painting pictures or composing music or whatever. Bill Gates the newest fan of Sal Khan.. “This guy is amazing”, "It is awesome how much he has done with very little in the way of resources." Gates said. Thursday, October 28, 2010
