You will be working on a weekly generational analysis that culminates in a final, edited compilation due in
Week 6.
Your weekly installments will explore the zeitgeist (German for “spirit of the times”) of each era by traveling through the generations and examining a single facet of popular culture. Select one area of popular culture to investigate through each generation from the following list:

Consider the generation’s characteristics as you explore how the area you have chosen evolved during that generation. Relate the generation to the area, and you will find the spirit of the times.
Compose your analysis with care. Analyze how the area you chose forms a portrait of the multiple generations alive during this time. Think about historical and cultural events, technological advancements, the economy, and the political climate. Describe how those changes might affect one personally.
Your project may take the form of a traditional paper. A traditional paper offers an introduction, develops a thesis with evidence, and provides a conclusion. Your paper must include functional links, clips, and/or images.
An alternative to the traditional paper is a creative work approved by your instructor and supported with a written analysis. Your written analysis will support your creative project by relating your creative work to the zeitgeist we study each week. Some examples are: a menu for each generation, a cinema showcase of film clips or self-made films reflecting each generation, a concert (your own music created in the spirit of each generation), a fashion show for each generation, a video game reflecting the generations, an oral history (interviews with family members, friends, and/or strangers about their generations).
Visual presentation is important. Be certain to present your work aesthetically. If you are composing a traditional paper, then images, clips, and/or links will add professionalism.

You will create a 10 minute virtual tour of a “cultural museum” that teaches your audience about a particular culture. The museum that you select must be within the United States. For example, The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Ellis Island, Charles H. Wright African American Museum, etc. You will create a “virtual tour” of the museum by creating a PowerPoint presentation with at least one slide dedicated to each “room” of the museum. You must provide the history of the museum through the use of visual imagery. You might choose to display some of the objects/artifacts that would be included in the museum, audio or video clips related to the spaces, or text that might appear on the displays or signs at the museum. Be sure you have a title slide with the name of the museum you chose on it. Your final product should be very creative AND very realistic. You will have to do extensive research on the museum that you choose. Your audience should walk away from your presentation with the feeling that they have just left the museum. The audience should also gain new information about the culture that they did not know before your presentation. You will also need to submit a reference page using APA format. This should be primarily a visual tour. Please limit any text on slides to short headings and/or bullet points. I do not require any citations for images/photos.

The Year 5 sculpture project was inspired by the 3D artworks of Gustavo Ramirez Cruz and Australian Indigenous paintings. Students were tasked with creating their own 3D sculpture using various materials like wire, polystyrene, paper clay, and plaster bandages. They were to incorporate patterns and symbols found in the example artworks. The multi-step process involved brainstorming design ideas, planning with sketches, constructing a wire armature wrapped in tape and plaster bandages, and finally painting details and patterns onto the finished sculpture.

You will be working on a weekly generational analysis that culminates in a final, edited compilation due in
Week 6.
Your weekly installments will explore the zeitgeist (German for “spirit of the times”) of each era by traveling through the generations and examining a single facet of popular culture. Select one area of popular culture to investigate through each generation from the following list:

Advertising or Graphic Design

Dance

Fashion

Film or Video

Games or Sports

Jokes or Urban Legends

Literature
•
Music or Music Videos
Consider the generation’s characteristics as you explore how the area you have chosen evolved during that generation. Relate the generation to the area, and you will find the spirit of the times.
Compose your analysis with care. Analyze how the area you chose forms a portrait of the multiple generations alive during this time. Think about historical and cultural events, technological advancements, the economy, and the political climate. Describe how those changes might affect one personally.
Your project may take the form of a traditional paper. A traditional paper offers an introduction, develops a thesis with evidence, and provides a conclusion. Your paper must include functional links, clips, and/or images.
An alternative to the traditional paper is a creative work approved by your instructor and supported with a written analysis. Your written analysis will support your creative project by relating your creative work to the zeitgeist we study each week. Some examples are: a menu for each generation, a cinema showcase of film clips or self-made films reflecting each generation, a concert (your own music created in the spirit of each generation), a fashion show for each generation, a video game reflecting the generations, an oral history (interviews with family members, friends, and/or strangers about their generations).
Visual presentation is important. Be certain to present your work aesthetically. If you are composing a traditional paper, then images, clips, and/or links will add professionalism.

The temple and the sanctuary around were dedicated to Asklepios Zmidrenus. This name has been known since 1875 when an inscription dedicated to him was discovered in Rome. The inscription is dated in 227 AD and was left by soldiers originating from the city of Philippopolis (modern Plovdiv).

W7 Y6 Expo task 3 Slide Show and Expo Stall Explanation Slides
- 1. EXPO TASK 3: SLIDE SHOW As part of your display, you will need to collect a range of photographs/images of Australia and your chosen Asian country. These will be used by you to create a slideshow that can play continuously throughout the Expo. The pictures and images you choose will need to provide Expo visitors with a real ‘sense’ of each country.
- 2. TASK 3: SLIDESHOW These images could provide information about the following: • Physical and man-made environment • Tourist activities/attractions • Cultural dress • Cultural traditions • Cuisine • Flora/Fauna All images MUST be clearly labelled and sources need to be referenced in your Bibliography.
- 3. Your slides should present a clear sense of ‘Place’ for both your Asian country and for Australia. You should include a range of physical and human characteristics associated with the countries.
- 4. EXPO EXTENSION TASKSHow do you say that? Choose 5 phrases that could be useful for visitors to each country. Provide written and spoken (recorded) translations for these phrases in several different languages. Cultural Dress Create a dress-up cardboard model and create a range of cultural clothing. Music Collect a range of music or clips of other cultural performances Cuisine Try cooking something from your Asian country and/or create a poster of some key recipes or restaurant menus.
- 5. EXPO STALL • Include the following in your Expo Stall: • Laminated map • Fact Files • Slideshow • To make your stall even more engaging, you might also include some of the following: • Music playing • Food samples, images of food, a printed recipe or printed menu • Fashion • Cultural objects/items • A game • A postcard from your country
- 6. EXPO STALL EXTENSION POSTCARD Create a Postcard from one of your countries (not Australia). • Include some pictures from the country that would appeal to tourists. • Include a description about your holiday activities that are unique to that country.
- 8. EXPO STALL EXTENSION TRADITIONAL COSTUME Research the traditional costumes for your chosen countries. Use a variety of different materials to dress a mini cardboard cutout.
- 9. EXPO STALL EXTENSION TRADITIONAL COSTUME TEMPLATE You might like to use this template, or create one of your own.
