Question:
Find the volume of a cube that has a total area of 96 sq. in.
Solution:
If ‘s’ is the side of a cube, then the area of a one face of a cube is
Surface Area = s x s = s2
In a cube total surface is 6, so the total surface area of a cube is 6a2. Thus
6a2 = 96
Divide the whole equation by 6, we get
a2 = 16
Taking the square root both the sides we get
a =4
a =4
Now , the formula to find the volume of a cube is (side)3. Therefore,
Volume of a cube = 43 = 64 cubic inches
