Volleyball originated in 1895 when William G. Morgan invented the sport at Springfield College. It has since grown tremendously in popularity worldwide, with over 800 million people now playing globally. The basic rules are that two teams of six players use skills like passing, setting, and spiking to hit the ball over a tall net, aiming to score points by grounding the ball on the opponent's side of the court before it touches the ground. Volleyball has been an Olympic sport since 1964 and is now the second most popular sport worldwide for both men and women of all ages and abilities.
