Integrating with others:
Stable VIVO URIs for local authority records;
linking to VIAF; ORCID organizational
identifiers; W3C Dataset ontology work
2. Creating stable VIVO URIs for local authority
records
Background:
- Approximately 40% of faculty members are
represented in the Library of Congress Name
Authority File (based on study at Texas A&M)
- University Libraries create local name authority
files to capture all the faculty
- VIVO can solve this problem on a larger scale
3. Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PPC)
Task Group on the creation and Function of
Name Authorities in a Non-MARC
Environment:
“• How to relate external named entity identifiers
and information to library authority data
• How to relate external named entity identifiers
and information to library bibliographic data
• How to structure library authority data to optimize
its utility in a linked data environment as well as in
library systems”
4. “URIs for each faculty member from VIVO
instances can be good candidates for this
project since the Program for Cooperative
Cataloging (PCC) realizes that not all
faculty members have Name Authority
Records (NARs) in the Library of Congress
Name Authority File” Violeta Ilik to Jon Corson-Rikert,

If datasets are considered scholarly products, then our
VIVO profiles should be able to reference our activities in
creating, maintaining, curating and disseminating them.
Where is the VIVO inside?
18. What is ORCID doing about organizational identifiers?
Waiting for ISNI organization identifiers to be ready
Seeded organizations from Ringgold for links between ORCID
IDs and organizations for education and employment
Funding linking will integrate CrossRef's FundRef organization
list http://www.crossref.org/fundref/fundref_registry.html
donated from Elsevier
Disambiguated organizations across the two and have shared
back to Ringgold and FundRef
Expecting the ISNI identifiers to serve as the linking identifier
between various organization lists
How shall VIVO best take this into account? VIVO person URIs have
various kinds of relationships to these organizations
