3. Individualism Individualism states that everyone looks after themselves. Freedom, rights and independent action for everyone.An example of individualism is the availability of scholarships. 7. Competition Two or more groups or individuals that both want a scarce resource and compete to get it.Example: Two oil companies want the oil found in the Arctic. 8. Freedom (political /economic) Democracy is based on this idea. People are free to do what they want as long as they do not break the law.Canada’s government is a democracy. 9. Rule of Law The rule that everyone can be subjected to the law. No one is exempt, including the government. Authority can only come from the law.Police officers can be charged when they break the law. http://ruleoflaw-vba.org/

10. Private Property Resources and property should be owned by the individual instead of the government. 11. Collective Responsibility There are two meanings to collective responsibility. The first is that everyone is to some degree responsible for one another and we all make sacrifices for the benefit of all. 12. Collective Interest Something that improves the quality of life of a group of people or satisfies a concern.An army keeps a country safe and takes care of problems it faces. 16. Public Property Assets are owned or controlled by the government to be used by society.
