Danielle Downey expresses right-leaning political views. She believes in a capitalist society with limited government and individual responsibility. A conservative government provides equal opportunities for people to succeed or fail through their own actions. Taxation should be low and the same for all. Criminal punishment must be severe to deter unlawful behavior, as individuals freely choose whether to follow the rules or not. Socialism is unfair as it takes away individual choice and uses taxes to help those people have not met. A liberal view excusing criminal behavior is unreasonable as the individual committed the crime and must accept the consequences. Overall, Danielle believes a capitalist society is better than a socialist one.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

The role of governmentislimited inacapitalistsociety.Thisis beneficial because when

isdecreasedtaxation.Taxesshouldbe the same foreveryone,richorpoor. Successful people have a
rightto theirmoneybecause theyearnedit.
Punishmentismore drasticwithaconservative government.Individualsmake the choice tolive
accordingto the lawor not.Theyare aware of the consequences.If theychoose tobreaklaws,they
have to take responsibility foritbecause the social contracthas beenbroken.Punishmenthastobe
more severe inorderto encourage peopletofollow the rulessetoutforthem.

the personwhodidit wasnot capable of control.
I have rightleaningtendenciesbecause Idonotlike thinkingthatagovernmenthascontrol over
my life. Governmentstake advantageof theirauthorityandeventuallybecome corrupt.Igetthisidea
fromnewspaperarticlesandsocial assignmentsthatexplainhow governmentsandpeopleinpositions
of powerexploitthe people beneaththem.Ialsoagree withsocialismbecause Ibelieve inthe ideathat
humanbeingsare generallyselfishandcan’tbe trusted. Overall,acapitalistsocietyismuchbetterthan
a socialistsociety.
