Individualism A system of beliefs that place importance on the rights of the individual, and self reliance, above the group Example: Police need a warrant to search property without just cause, because people have a right to privacy. http://www.innoventum.com/
Collectivism A system of beliefs placing importance on the needs of the group over the rights of the individual Example: When individuals are put in prison to protect society, even though in Canada people have the right to freedom http://www.zencollegelife.com/the-art-of-unique-conformity/
Liberalism A system of beliefs regarding politics that favors individual freedom, progress and reform. Example: USA highly values liberty after the revolution from Britain http://www.ecrportugal.com/Places-to-Visit.html
Self Interest Taking advantage of opportunities for oneself by oneself Example: In Cambodia supposedly those who work hard succeed while those who do not live in poverty www.cosmologer.blogspot.com
Competition Two or more groups struggling for a resource Example: Two oil companies struggling for an area of land www.getfrank.co.nz
Freedom Political – Absence of interference by a sovereign Economic – Absence of interference when producing, trading or consuming goods Example: In Canada we are able to have access to both types of freedom http://www.corbisimages.com/content/thehumantouch/#/slide/31
Rule of Law No one person is above the law, all must obey it Example: Even Canada’s national leaders can be arrested when they break the law www.faith4god.com

Collective Responsibility Each person has some responsibility for the good of all within their group, and the actions of all within their group Example: When soldiers go overseas, they represent our country so they need to behave well www.onwardjames.blogspot.com
Collective Interest Any activity, service etc. that satisfies a concern of the group, improves it in some way, or promotes it Example: The legal system satisfies the concerns of everyone in Canada http://online.ccj.pdx.edu/

Public Property Resources and assets are owned and managed by the government so  “all may benefit” Example: In Communism, the government owns everything and redistributes it among the people evenly http://www.minstrelrecording.com/clients.htm

Collective Identity The set of characteristics that are exhibited by a group that set them apart from others Example: Languages and how groups communicate set them apart from others, and become things they are known for.
