This class focuses on the history and future of visual narrative and comics. It will cover comics as a medium for storytelling, their role in modern pop culture and entertainment, and how to use sequential art and visual narratives for transmedia storytelling. The course consists of lectures, workshops, guest speakers and a final team project to create an original transmedia work incorporating graphic narrative. Students will read texts on comics and transmedia storytelling. Participation, presentations and a final paper will determine grades. The goal is to explore how comics can expand into new contexts and platforms to push creative storytelling.
