films, including Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, the Transformers franchise and Iron Man.
 Lucas film Singapore has a large interactive division LucasArts Singapore is an extension of LucasArts in
the US -- a leading developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software worldwide for video game
console systems, computers and the Internet.

SOME ROLES IN THE VFX
          INDUSTRY
 Roto-scope Artist: Considered an entry level role for VFX.
 Roto-scope artists provide traced outlines (mattes) so that live-action objects can
be integrated into layers for films, television shows, and video games. Today, instead
of manually tracing each frame by hand, computers and complex software is used
to make the process slightly easier.
 You can make anywhere from $15-$50 dollars an hour, depending on
experience, the project, and the studio.
 The position of Roto-scope artist often leads to more lucrative and skilled
positions such as Compositor.
COMPOSITOR (VFX)
 Compositors work at the end of the production process to join the creative
efforts of the team into a cohesive and seamless final product.
 Compositors work in most areas of animation and post-production and are
responsible for creating the seamlessly integrated combination of live action,
computer graphics, and visual effects for film and video.
 Compositors will immediately need extensive knowledge of the latest
compositing software such as Shake and After Effects, as well as proprietary
software and programs like Photoshop, Maya, Combustion, Inferno, Flame, Amino,
Opus, and other software common to the 2-D and 3-D animation processes.
RENDER RANGLER
 An entry level positon again, Rendering is the pivotal process in CGI of turning computer
data into a sequence of viewable images; the render wrangler is responsible for monitoring and
controlling the rendering process, while also managing rendering priorities based on the needs of
department supervisors and production management. Render wranglers can work on projects
from the pre-visualization stage until the project is delivered for compositing
 As supervisors of the rendering process, they are responsible for monitoring the render
farm, whether that means just a few computers or hundreds
 Rota systems, long hours, night shifts, low starting pay, and the often anti-social lifestyle of
the computer geek should be taken into account when considering a job as a render wrangler, but
it is a solid stepping stone into a great career in CG.
HEALTH OF THE VFX
            INDUSTRY?
 Industry revenue is estimated to increase in 2011-12, due to the
continued popularity of 3-D films, greater special effects in films and
TV advertising, and the recent success of some major UK films.

 The Film, Video and TV Programme Post-Production industry in
the UK has a low level of industry concentration. The four largest
firms in this industry are estimated to account for about 13.3% of
industry revenue in 2011-12.
