3. Synopsis
World War Z-Max Brooks: An Oral History of the Zombie War by
Max Brooks follows the progression of a fictitious war between
zombified humans and the living. The narrator, a fact finder for
the Postwar Commission, has compiled numerous interviews
over the course of several years and has chosen to place them
into a book for future generations to analyze the war. The
stories, from all countries and all populations, show the true
strength of humankind, and the powerful forces that guide all
civilizations.
Told from the perspective of numerous survivors from all over
the world, from Denver to South Africa, Sydney to Yonkers,
Malibu to India, World War Z captures the sacrifices and, toward
the end, the ingenuity of our race to defend and save our cities,
towns, and villages from a plague that seemed virtually
impossible to stop. Brooks tells a moving story of courage and
survival and gives us insight into the key military strategies that
helped us take our world back.

10. Quotes From the Book
“Most people don't believe something can happen until it
already has. That's not stupidity or weakness, that's just human
nature.”
“They say eleven million people died that winter, and
that’s just in North America.”
“First of all, there was no way to save everyone. The
outbreak was too far gone.”
“For the first time in history, we faced an enemy that was
actively waging total war. They had no limits of endurance.
They would never negotiate, never surrender. They would
fight until the very end because, unlike us, every single one
of them, every second of every day, was devoted to
consuming all life on Earth. That's the kind of enemy we
had waiting for us beyond the Rockies. That's the kind of
war we had to fight.”

12. • Throughout the history of the world, we have had
many wars and disasters that threatened to destroy
our world. We have survived all of them, and became
stronger and more experienced after each one.
Human ingenuity to protect ourselves, and to be able
to have the courage and willingness to survive
through the tough times was incredible. This book
brought out the fear that I had kept in my brain for a
long time. The thought of a seemingly unstoppable
plague consuming everything in the world is
terrifying, and even though it seems impossible,
what if a worldwide epidemic were to occur? Would
we survive? Or will the human race be wiped out for
all eternity?
