3. Vision 2020 is a Malaysian ideal introduced by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir bin
Mohamad during the tabling of the Sixth Malaysia Plan in 1991. The vision calls for the nation to achieve
a self-sufficient industrialized nation by the year 2020, encompasses all aspects of life, from economic
prosperity, social well-being, educational world class, political stability, as well as psychological balance.
- the vision was established by the former prime minister, Tun Mahathir Mohammed during the tabling
of the 6th Malaysian plan in 1991.
- Nine challenges were set out to meet the targets of the vision.
Interdiction
4. By the year of 2020 Malaysia can be a united nation , with a confident Malaysian
society , infused by strong moral and ethical values, living in a society that is
democratic , liberal , tolerant , caring , economically just and equitable , progressive
and prosperous and in full possession of an economy that is competitive , dynamic ,
strong , and resilient.
Goals :
6. 1) Establishing a united Malaysian nation made up of one race.
This challenge shows that all Malaysian
people must have a sense of common and
shared destiny living in peace and harmony.
7. 2) Creating a psychologically liberated, secure and developed Malaysian
society with faith and confidence in itself.
Creating a psychologically liberated, secure
and developed Malaysian society is the
second challenge for Vision 2020
8. 3) Fostering a mature, democratic society, practicing a form of consensual
democracy that can be a model for many developing countries.
Democracy is more than the ritual casting of
a ballot at multi-party elections.
9. 4) Establish a fully moral and ethical society.
So the citizens of Malaysia become stronger
in religious and spiritual values and imbued
with highest ethical standards
10. 5) Establishing a mature, liberal and tolerant society.
So Malaysians of all colors and creeds are
free to practice and profess their customs,
cultures and religious beliefs.
11. 6) Establishing a scientific and progressive society.
A society that is innovative and forward-
looking, one that is not only a consumer of
technology
12. 7) Nurturing a fully caring society and a caring culture.
If there is one challenge of Vision 2020 that
is quoted more than any other, it is that the
Malaysian people need to be caring
13. 8) Ensuring an economically just society in which there is a full
partnership in economic progress.
A society like the Malaysian society cannot
be in a higher place as long as there is the
identification of economic backwardness
with race
14. 9) Establishing a prosperous society, with an economy that is fully
competitive, dynamic, robust and resilient.
A dynamic, robust and resilient economy
means to change the way that Malaysian
share and use information
15. CONCLUSION
The main emphasis of this vision is economically related and to achieve it an annual growth
rate of 7% is required so the (GDP) Gross Domestic Product have to be doubled every 10 years
but in fact the greatest success in this vision is that the whole entire nation were working
together toward a common goal.
