2. INTRODUCTION
China has unveiled a track-less train that runs on virtual rails in a bid to speed up
public transportation in major cities.
The new trains were announced on June 2 in Zhuzhou, China's Hunan province
and are said to be non-polluting.
The Chinese rail corporation began designing the new system in 2013 and it is set
to begin operating in 2018.
3. SPECIFICATION
Runs on rubber wheels with a plastic core.
It is equipped with various sensors to assist the driver in following the route on a
virtual track
A Collision Warning System supports the driver on keeping a safe distance with
other vehicles on the road.
The Route Change Authorization is navigation device, which analyzes the traffic
conditions on the chosen route and can recommend a detour to avoid traffic.
The train is powered by lithium–titanate batteries.
5. ADVANTAGE
The railless system provides low construction and maintenance cost, because no
railway tracks
The cost of the new train is around the fifth of the price of a traditional subway
system which usually costs around British Pound 45.6 to 79 million.
Using quick charge batteries reduces the need for overhead cables.
