My preschool child's health and safety is a top priority. I will teach them proper hand washing and stranger danger. I will ensure they understand to only go with myself or their father after school and to not accept rides from anyone else. I will also make sure they get all required shots to prevent illness and have them cover their mouth when coughing or sneezing to avoid spreading germs.

1. The Preschool years (3 to 5 Years Old)
Discuss the health and safety practices that you will implement for you preschool child.
My preschool child I will have a lot of safety and health practices, firstly I will discuss the harms of what can happen if
the don’t listen just so it impales in their minds. I would tell my child about how to wash their hands then I would show
them and make them show me so If they are not washing their hands properly I will be there to make sure it gets done
the right way. Next I will talk to my child about strangers and not to wonder away from the school they should wait for
me after school to pick them up either me or their father no one else if their aunts or uncles are going to pick them up I
will phone the school and let them know but that’s only in case of an emergency. I will make sure my child understands
that no matter how much some one tries to entice them by telling them “I’m a friend of your mom and dad’s to not go
because I will always pick them up. I will teach my child how to cover their mouths when they have a cold to prevent
germs and I will most likely make sure that my child has all his shots to prevent any type of serious illness.
Question 3
Think about how might your child’s development be different if she/he was raise by people with different
socioeconomic, ethnic or cultural background. How would the concept of the “whole child” play a role?
The concept of the “whole child” plays a huge role in how people raise their children judging from socioeconomic, ethnic
or cultural backgrounds because it has to do with all parts that it takes for a child to develop such as cognitive,
emotional, physical growth, motor skills language etc. If my child was raise by people of different ethnic backgrounds or
point of view as me of course my Childs development will be a lot different in all aspects of development such as infant
years, toddlers, preschools, school age and adolescent. Every child is different they all develop at a different times and
pace but it also has to do with their surroundings and the influences around them. Everyone is different by the way they
raise their child, everyone has different morals and beliefs as to what they want their child to be doing at a certain age
or what’s acceptable and appropriate. For example some people believe in spanking their children when they do
something wrong and some believe in just talking to the child, there is only so much a parent can do to an extent to how
they picture they their child being raised. In the end every child ends up growing up and having different paths maybe
from what their parents wanted even though they were raised a certain way. Ethnic and cultural backgrounds have a lot
to do with the roles of how a child develops but sometimes it can be thrown off course when being in a place as
multicultural as Toronto and wanting to fit in with their peers.

2. The School Age Years (6 to 11 Years Old)
As a parent, what are some of your concerns regarding your child’s health and safety during the School Age years?
As a parent I have a lot of concerns regarding my Childs health and safety during the schools age years because when
children are going to elementary school they are careless and go about having rough play which can lead to injuries. I am
very worried if my child gets injured by doing something they weren’t supposed to be doing or the influences they will
have around them. Children are easy to pick up viruses like colds and that worries me also because colds are so easy to
spread and catch and then they are so hard to get rid of. But these days there are so many shots for almost everything in
helping to prevent germs from spreading all around. Being a parent it’s hard to try to keep tabs all the time on what your
child is doing that’s why I just have to teach them right from wrong and hope that they know what they are doing. I
would teach my child how to properly wash their hands when they are at school and before they eat and to not touch
their faces often.
Children can get themselves into mischief by following the wrong crowd and speaking from experience I would be
mortified if I heard that my child put themselves in harm’s way to please others when I know that I have thought them
so much better and they should know better but it’s all depending on your child if they want to do the right thing or not
it’s like the saying goes “danger doesn’t find your child your child finds danger”.
Another point that makes me anxious as a parent is worrying about my child wondering off with a stranger and never
seeing them again because in these days and time anything is possible and can happen to anyone no matter if you speak
to your child. To prevent this I would speak to my child about waiting on me to pick them up after school and to go with
no one even if they try to use luring words.
