, the Voice Internetworking Multiplexer (VIM)
is the smallest, most cost-effective integrated access device (IAD) for extending asynchronous
transfer mode (ATM) corporate networks to remote sites in the pursuit of voice/data integration.
Furthermore, this effective solution enables toll-quality voice to simultaneously be carried with
data and video traffic.
Compared with costly and inconvenient modular-based solutions, the VIM offers rich
features and functionality at an unprecedented price. No other similarly priced IAD integrates
as much functionality in one turnkey box.
2. Reliability
When designing the Sphericall by Marconi solution, uncompromising service level goals
were set and attained. Functioning as an IAD, the VIM can also serve as an access router.
Enabling telephony over the enterprise is no problem with the Sphericall system, which is
designed to give priority to voice calls before yielding to data streams. When mixed with voice
and video, the data on the network is ensured a consistent throughput.
Toll-quality and Reliable Service
The VIM’s operation in delivering toll-quality voice service is protocol agnostic. The VIM
has the ability to request a constant flow for signaling and media streams, which enables
Marconi’s Sphericall solution to guarantee that the media stream will have low latency and digital
toll-quality — all the time, every time. Hence, call completion at the highest level assures that
there are no dropped phone calls.
Cost Savings and Efficiency
Consolidation of disparate networks onto a single, unified network saves management
costs through better administration. Switched virtual circuits (SVCs) provide network scalability
and voice on demand. Data traffic will throttle up to maximum throughput during periods
of silence on the WAN link. The VIM provides users with expected performance without
any compromise.
