SQL Master’s Program 2010
The SetFocus SQL Server Master’s Program is an intensive, hands–on, project oriented
program where participants gain knowledge and valuable experience putting the SQL Server
skill set to use in a simulated work environment.
• Created numerous simple to complex queries involving self joins, correlated
subqueries, CTE’s and XML techniques for diverse business requirements. Tuned and

optimized queries by altering database design, analyzing different query options, and
indexing strategies.
• As part of a team, analyzed the business requirements and systematically designed a
database for an online-movie (DVD/Blu-Ray) rental company. Employed best
practices in creating a complete schema including tables, relationships, stored
procedures, views, clustered and non-clustered indexes and triggers, and
implemented the import and export of data using XML and SSIS.
• As part of a team, created various reports according to the business requirements for
the movie rental company. Individually authored, installed, deployed and managed
reports using SSRS for a library database.
• Individually designed a bank application according to business requirements, and
implemented robust stored procedures, functions, and triggers to implement
required functionalities.
• Created an ETL solution that reads Product, Vendor, and Order data from .CSV files
on a network share into a SQL Server database. The solution also validated
incoming data and performed notifications when jobs complete. The order data thus
loaded into SQL Server was used to generate reports using the new SSRS 2008
reporting functionality (including the Tablix control). The reports were set up for
automatic delivery based on standard report subscriptions.

Senior Programmer Analyst
Provided program development and support for Big M. Inc., which is involved in Women’s
retail apparel. Worked with the Lead Business Analyst on enhancements / new systems as
requested by the user community.
• Became adept in the use of CICS.
• All programming was done utilizing Cobol.
• Responsible for Inventory Application. Rewrote documentation and adjusted
processing flow to help streamline and automate more of the process.
• Developed an enhancement to provide visibility of merchandise currently in the
warehouse location. This entailed the modification of numerous programs and
reports.
• Created a system to track the flow of merchandise from the time it first entered
the warehouse until it reached the various stores. This included a timer
transaction in CICS to automatically submit jobs at specified intervals to process
information from the scan guns, and format and FTP information to UNIX and
Windows based platforms for further processing and integration.
• Provided programming support to all current production systems as needed.

Provided development and implementation support for M&M Mars’ Customer Incentive
Program.

Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, Warren, NJ 1974-1999
Technical Analyst
Provided programming and trouble shooting support for the mainframe data store for the
Commercial Underwriting Workstation, identified and corrected problems relating to data
currency and data integrity. Created programs to assure that data was current and
designed and implemented application fixes. Maintained all developer and business analyst
workstations at required specifications while supporting all non-standard application
programming needs
• Identified and defined requirements for correcting incomplete and inaccurate data
from source systems. Rejects dropped from between 50 and 100 per week to 3
or less per week.
• Provided technical input and expertise to Batch ABEND Task Force, which helped
them reduce abends and improve throughput.
• Participated in the corporate roll-out of the new client/server strategy, which
included replacing existing hardware and a large amount of existing software.
• The Commercial Underwriting workstation had a 100 million dollar a year budget.
Senior Programmer Analyst
Responsibilities included assuring data quality for multiple corporate systems and processes.
Increased knowledge of all technologies utilized within area. Provided design and system
documentation of various systems.
• Rewrote outdated application utilizing new approved Client/Server technology,
which allowed the reallocation of 50 percent of the staff to other job functions.
• Committee Chairman for implementation, usage and environment definitions for
Micro Focus COBOL Workbench. Provided a 3:1 increase in productivity over
previous methods of debugging.
• Lead Programmer on retrofitting vendor package that performed name and
address matching and verification. Led to the identification of an additional
45,000 duplicate entries of insured’s.
Programmer Analyst
Assisted in design, review, coding, integration testing and implementation of online and
batch IMS based system. Became familiar with the technologies that were being utilized.
• Successfully implemented major OLTP application.
• Responsible for finding, documenting and implementing changes for numerous
problems and user enhancements which increased system reliability and
