VEGETABLE
GARDENING
To understand
the basics of
vegetable
gardening
To identify factors
affecting successful
vegetable
gardening.
OBJECTIVES
To recognize
different types of
soil and climates
relevant to
gardening.
1 2 3
The Philippines has vast lands
for agriculture.
Agriculture is the cultivation of
the soil for raising crops and
the raising and breeding of
livestock.
Gardening is a type of
agricultural process where the
cultivation of plants is often
done in the backyard or a lot
near one’s home.
Factors Affecting
Successful
Vegetable
Gardening:
root
leaf
flower
stem
soil
The type of soil
determines to a large
extent the highest
possible harvest and
the type of vegetables
that can be grown.
SOIL
Loam Soil-It is a combination of fine and coarse
particles.
1.
Sandy Loam Soil-it contains humus and nutrients.
2.
Silty Loam Soil-It has a finer and smoother
texture.
3.
Clay Loam Soil-It contains a large amount of very
fine particles.
4.
Sandy Soil-It is not recommended for planting.
5.
Clay Soil-It is difficult to dig when wet and hard
when dry.
6.
KINDS OF
SOIL:
It plays an
important role in
photosynthesis.
SUNSHINE
It helps to sustain
the life of
vegetables.
WATER
Pertains to the
weather conditions
prevailing in an
area.
CLIMATE
TYPE OF CLIMATES IN THE
PHILIPPINES:
- Wet and dry
- Covers May to
October
TYPE 1
CLIMATE
- No dry season
- Rains from November to
January
TYPE 2
CLIMATE
- had a short dry
season from
November to April
TYPE 3
CLIMATE
- No dry season
- Rains are more or less
evenly distributed all year
round.
TYPE 4
CLIMATE
ACTIVITY!
In your notebook, design
a mini vegetable garden
layout considering the
factors discussed (soil,
sunlight, water, climate).
ASSIGNMENT!
Research and create a
poster or presentation on
one of the climate types
in the Philippines,
focusing on its impact on
vegetable gardening.
PERFORMANCE

poster or presentation on
one of the climate types
in the Philippines,
focusing on its impact on
vegetable gardening.
