OBJECTIVE
The main goal of this project is to develop a system which
monitors the location of the vehicle all the times and sends
the information to the caretaker via GSM Module with respect
to Co-ordinates with the help of GPS receiver.
During object motion, the location can be reported by SMS
language.

Circuit Description
 Vehicle tracking by GPS-GSM consists of microcontroller,GPS module
,GSM modem and 9V power supply.
GPS module gets he location information from satellites in the form of
latitude and longitude.
The microcontroller processes this informatin sends it to the GSM modem.
The GSM modem then sends the information to the owner’s mobile phone.
Working principle
 Vehicle tracking system consists of GPS receiver and GSM modem
with a microcontroller.
 The whole system is attached to the vehicle.
One GSM mobile phone is attached to the computer with VB
(visual basic) application.
So the GPS system will send the longitgudinal and altitude values
corresponding to the position of vehicle to GSM Modem.
Working Principle
 Imagine the bus has left from BBSR at 8’o clock in the morning.
 If the owner w2ants to know where the vehicle is,he will come to
the computer and click in the vehicle number on the VB program.
The VB program will send an SMS to the vehicle number.
The SMS sent would come through the SMS service provider and
then reach the vehicle which is travelling.
Because the vehicle has a GSM device with SIM card.
 This GSM modem will receive the SMS and send to the
microcontroller in the device.
 This microcontroller will receive the SMS and compare the
password and the command.
Working Principle
 If every thing matches then it will perform the request required
by the owner.
Name of the place is assigned for each longitude and latitude.
The GSM receiver in the vehicle office receiuves owner receive
the data and gives to the PC through serial port.
The VB program in the PC checks the data with its database
&display the details of the vehgicle on the scrfeen.
The device is password controlled i.e prson who knbows the
device password only able to operate.
In case of any mishap the device will automatically send an
alert to the registered number which is feed in the memory of
microcontroller.
Testing:
 Connect the circuit to GPS and GSM modem.
 Switch ON the circuit.
 Switch one the GPS module and wwait for 10-15 minutes for intialisation
 Switch ON the GSM modem.
 Dial the mobile number in the GSM modem. After two rings, the ringing
stops automatically.
 Wait for few seconds ,you wil get an SMS alert in your mobile.
 Check your SMS inbox .You will see the latitude and longitude data in
the form of SMS text.
 Open a standard map and locate the point on the map.
Advantages
 It provides more security.
 We can access the system from the system from the remote
place.
 It reduce vehicle abuse .
Easy to use for rural areas.
 Low power consumption.
Flexible and reliable.
 Automatically controlled and easy to use.
Limitations
 If there is noise in edge detected image,it’s hard
to track the vehicle.
Applications
 Stolen vehicle recovery.
 Fleet monitoring.
 Field service management.
 Route monitoring.
 Used for food delivery and car rental
companies.
 Used in real time traffic surveillance.
Future of Vehicle
Tracking System
As technology continues to evolve,
the future of vehicle tracking
systems looks promising.
Advancements in AI (Artificial
Intelligence) and machine learning
are expected to improve the
accuracy and reliability of the
system, while the integration of IoT
(Internet of Things) technology will
allow for better connectivity and
data sharing.
Additionally, the use of blockchain
technology could enhance the
security and privacy of the system
by providing a tamper-proof record
Conclusion
As this project is based on microcontroler ,GPS
and GSM and this is designed and developed a low cost system based
on integration of GPS and GSM data is described. The system consists
of different modules which are linked wirelessly with GSM modem.
Cost effective SMS service of GSM network is used for the transfer of
data between the modules . This service provides the information
about the location of the place where the vehicle is going via GPS and
GSM module at each and every time.
