World Development Report 2016 - Digital dividendsAmit Anand
Digital technologies have the potential to promote greater inclusion, efficiency, and innovation to boost economic growth and development. However, many countries and people remain unable to participate or benefit from the digital economy. For digital dividends to be widely shared, access must be complemented with investments in analog complements like education and skills, infrastructure, governance, and business reforms. Countries that make these balanced investments stand to gain the most from digital technologies in terms of jobs, trade, and public services.
The document provides guidance for summer work for a media studies transition course. Students must choose one of three tasks on the horror film genre: a movie poster, magazine, or trailer. The tasks vary in difficulty, with the trailer being the most challenging. The completed work will be handed in on the first lesson and will impact which tutorial group the student is placed in. Optional extension work is also suggested for those wanting to ensure a good group placement.
To earn an A-grade on the sound design task, students must construct the soundtrack for their film trailer by researching existing horror film trailers for influence, recording their sound construction process using screenshots and individual sound files, and annotating throughout to explain design choices. Examples of previous student work that achieved an A-grade are provided.
Cooking with gas - designing in semicrystalline materialsPlastindustrien
This document provides design tips for parts made from semi-crystalline polymers. It recommends considering the material properties and operating environment early in the design process. Specific tips include keeping wall thicknesses constant to avoid warping, adding radii to corners to prevent stress concentrations, and reinforcing weld lines if using screws to avoid the material being pushed apart. The goal is to provide robust, cost-effective designs by avoiding issues related to the material's crystalline structure and processing.
3D tire modeling in ANSYS can simulate the complex nonlinear behavior of tires. Tires have a composite structure with high-strength reinforcement elements embedded in a hyperelastic rubber material. ANSYS allows for modeling the reinforcement elements, complex contact behavior, large deformations, and fluid-structure interaction inside the pressurized tire. Various simulations can analyze tire inflation, footprint, rolling, water splash, blast wave interaction, and damage from landmines.
Effects of Globalisation on Indian Society Amit Anand
Globalization has had wide-ranging impacts on Indian society according to the document. It has led to the spreading and mixing of religions and cultures through increased travel and technology, but has also allowed the easier spread of extremist ideologies. In agriculture, globalization has increased competition for farmers but also improved technology and productivity. It has increased India's economic trade and job opportunities but also made economies more interconnected and vulnerable. Globalization has contributed to both the erosion of traditional Indian families and values as well as the spread of Western culture. It has improved access to health and education but also increased inequality. Globalization's effects on women include more jobs and economic independence as well as exploitation and commoditization. It has shifted pollution from developed to
This document provides an overview of Microsoft's growth strategy for its Xbox console gaming segment. It analyzes Microsoft's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the gaming industry. The strategy proposes creating the Xbox 720 console along with optional hardware upgrades, allowing for aftermarket customization which would be a first for the gaming industry. The largest expense would be research and development costs to create the new products.

2. It identifies the main challenges facing India's education system such as access, quality, skills, curriculum, technology and equity issues.
3. The vision of the new policy is to create a high-quality, inclusive education system to equip students for productive lives and national development.
4. Some objectives of the policy include expanding early childhood education, achieving universal secondary education, promoting skills and lifelong learning.
The Importance of Data Visualisation in AnalyticsAndy Kriebel
Data visualization is important for data analysis because it allows analysts to find unknown patterns in data and make an impact by communicating their findings to stakeholders in order to change the world. Specifically, visualizing data makes it easier to spot problems, opportunities, and insights that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. This allows organizations to use data to do good in their communities by showing what resources are needed where and how people can help. In short, data visualization has the potential to identify issues and solutions that could positively change the world.
The document discusses higher education in India. It outlines key issues like low enrollment rates compared to global averages, the need to improve access, equity and excellence. It also discusses challenges around funding, quality assurance and the tension between viewing education as a public vs. private good. The document proposes several reforms and initiatives to address issues like governance, research, vocational education and improving faculty resources. It provides details on existing government schemes aimed at areas like research, rankings, international collaboration, improving institutions and teacher training.

This document provides an overview of road safety initiatives undertaken by BEST, the public transport provider in Mumbai. It discusses how BEST has taken a three-pronged approach to road safety that focuses on accidents, training, and safe infrastructure. Data analysis shows accidents involving pedestrians and motorcyclists are most common. BEST has modified buses to improve driver visibility, provides regular safety training to drivers, and redesigned the Dindoshi Bus Station to separate pedestrian and vehicle flows and improve safety. Analysis indicates these initiatives have led to reductions in accidents, fatalities, and injuries in recent years.
This document discusses studying traditional rural settlement patterns. Villages and rural communities have evolved over time based on their local environment and culture. Each village is uniquely adapted to its region and microclimate. There is a distinct informal character and human scale to rural settlements that is often missing from contemporary cities. Studying rural morphology can provide inspiration for urban planners by highlighting sustainability principles that could be applied to urban planning with modifications. Understanding the spatial form and logic of existing rural settlements may provide lessons on creating more human-centric urban planning in the future.

váratlanul hunyt
el.
16. A kortárs zene sokoldalú, finom hangú művésze volt a november 8-án, hetvenkilenc éves
korában elhunyt zeneszerző és karmester, Vavrinecz Béla. Kodály Zoltán, Kókai
Rezső, Ferencsik János ésSomogyi László tanítványaként több zenekar karmestereként, illetve
zenei vezetőjeként a legjobb magyar zenei hagyományok folytatásával gazdag életművel
gyarapította a hazai és egyetemes zenei életet. Operák mellett számos táncjáték, színpadi
kísérőzene, oratórium (köztük a Gizella és a Somogyi
krónika címűek), versenyművek, kamaraművek, népdalfeldolgozások és mise jelzik alkotó
életútját. Az egykori ferences diák mindvégig a maga következetes világnézeti
meggyőződésével, ennek megfelelő esztétikai és erkölcsi következetességével alkotta műveit.
Minderről megjelent huszonnyolc lemeze is tanúskodik. A magyar őstörténet kutatásával is
foglalkozó zeneszerző sosem törekedett hangos hírverésre maga körül, a hétgyermekes
családapa az igazi művészek alázatával járta a maga szellemi és művészi útját, mindvégig
vallva, hogy a zene az ember Mindenség felé vezető útján az igazság lehetséges kifejezési
formája.
Személyes találkozásaink során mindig a kereső ember szenvedélyével fordult a lényeg
kifejezésének - művészet adta - lehetősége felé. Soha nem ragadt meg a mindennapok felszíni
érzelmi hullámzásánál, hanem a zene erejében, az alkotó ember hivatásában bízva vallotta: az
egyik legfontosabb esztétikai követelmény a tisztesség.
Ehhez a tisztességhez ragaszkodott fölcsendülő műveiben, s karmesterként is, akár a győri
filharmonikusoknál vagy a Budapest Táncegyüttesnél tölött évek során. Az alkotó folyamat most
végetért, ő megtért oda, amiben mindig hitt, ránk és a jövő nemzedékeire hagyva a magyar
zene értékhordozó mélyáramához tartozó életművét.
Vavrinecz Béla lelki üdvéért november 28-án, este fél hétkor mutatnak be engesztelő
gyászmisét a pesti ferences templomban, hamvait november 30-án helyezik el a Farkasréti
temetőben.
A zene továbbra is hangzik - http://ujember.katolikus.hu/Archivum/2004.11.28/1102.html
