Can it handle the global, mobile, nonstop reality of business today? Because that’s the new reality for globally integrated enterprises. Business is increasingly a team sport that leverages technology to cross borders and time zones. Work is more interconnected and more complex than ever. Our work environment is the pivotal place for helping us navigate this new business world.
This new workplace must address the diverse ways people are working today. It must support enhanced collaboration, the essence of knowledge work. It needs to inspire and attract people to work at the office instead of the coffee shop. It should nurture personal wellbeing, and leverage organizational culture and the company’s brand. Overall, this workplace must make the most of every square inch of an organization’s real estate.
“There’s no company that isn’t struggling with this new business environment. Everywhere, resources are stretched thin from downsizing and a struggling economy. Business issues are more complex than just a few years ago, more organizations are working on a global platform, and every company needs its employees, along with every other corporate asset, to do more than ever,” says John Hughes, principal of Applied Research & Consulting, the global Steelcase consultancy on work and workplace.
The fact is, as companies wrestle with these issues, the workplace can be a key strategic tool: interconnected, collaborative, inspirational. A work environment designed to support people, and the flow of information and enhanced collaboration, can actually help a company solve tough business problems, build market share, and stay competitive. In other words, an interconnected workplace for an interconnected world.
An Interconnected Workplace will:
- Optimize every square foot of real estate
- Enhance collaboration as a natural way of working
- Attract, develop, and engage great talent; people really want to work there
- Build the company brand and culture
- Help improve a person’s wellbeing

The potential unemployment owing to automation and improvements in ICTs is likely to be more drastic than earlier rounds of automation. Will people be redundant at the workplace? Is this likely to lead to unemployment and strife? Or can we use this opportunity to explore more art, travel, have more fun, in short be more human?
Based on extensive research including an exclusive survey of 800 knowledge workers in four European countries (Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom), this White Paper explores the concept of ‘Everywhere Working’, some of the drivers of this phenomenon and the now ubiquitous nature of work.

JDO 2019: Guardians of Culture Examining the Role of a CTO - Heather WildePROIDEA
There is no doubt that it is the job of the CEO to define the culture, lay out the vision and overall direction of the company. To whom do they turn to execute on that vision, though? The job of a CTO now lays not just in technology, but in ensuring that there is a culture-based infrastructure that runs through the entire company. Maintaining that vision and leading the company to stay consistent in both product lines and consumer voice is arguably the most important job of a CTO today.
Work is universal. But, how, why, where and when we work has never been so open to individual interpretation. The certainties of the past have been replaced by ambiguity, questions and the steady hum of technology. Now, in a groundbreaking research project covering 21 global companies and more than 200 executives, Lynda Gratton is making sense of the future of work. In this exclusive article she provides a preview of the real world of 21st century work.
The End of Information Technology: Introducing Hypersense & Human TechnologyMartin Geddes
If we were to climb into a time machine and set the dial for ten years into the future, what might personal communications look like? Might you inhabit a soothing virtual reality where your conference call takes place in a simulated lakeside villa? Might you consult with a virtual doctor? Employ a “Guardian Avatar” to act autonomously on your behalf eliminating online drudgery and security concerns? Although no particular future is certain, the seeds of what is to come can always be found within the present reality, albeit often only in retrospect.

BIFM North Region: Smarter Workplaces Seminar, April 2018Whitbags
Seminar at Manchester Central on 18 April 2018, discussing smarter workplaces and the proposed changes to BIFM, with Ian Ellison, Mark Catchlove and Steve Roots
While organizations earlier thrived on 'holding information' & believed it gave power to people/ teams, the world has moved on and so has the world of work. Here is what the 'new world of work' imply:
1. The next few years will be the time for collaboration technology
2.Analytics will drive decisions
3. Focus will be on managing multi-generational collision at the workplace
And this demands that leader of the future 'reset' in how they manage & lead in the new world of work & be able to:
- appreciate a diverse talent pool
- focus on providing jobs that create value
- understand technology & internet of things even more ..
Pwc workforce of the future the competing forces shaping 2030Peerasak C.
Foreword
We are living through a fundamental transformation in the way we work. Automation and
‘thinking machines’ are replacing human tasks and jobs, and changing the skills that organisations
are looking for in their people. These momentous changes raise huge organisational, talent and
HR challenges – at a time when business leaders are already wrestling with unprecedented risks,
disruption and political and societal upheaval.
The second Service Design Drinks of the year brought Francesca Terzi - Service Design Lead at Designit - to nerd together about the possible futures of finance.
As Service Designer, she believes that there are plenty of professionals out there who are also trying to understand what is happening in the fintech and finance world and also wondering what that means for them as professionals.
Francesca is a passionate designer seeking to make a change in the financial sector through the application of User-Centered Design and Agile principles. In the past 7 years, she worked in the development of service MVPs covering UX, agile development and service process improvements in several sectors. Knowledge sharing is her driver and she co-organises the Service Design Drinks and Global Service Jam in Munich.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.
Final project report on grocery store management system..pdfKamal Acharya
In today’s fast-changing business environment, it’s extremely important to be able to respond to client needs in the most effective and timely manner. If your customers wish to see your business online and have instant access to your products or services.
Online Grocery Store is an e-commerce website, which retails various grocery products. This project allows viewing various products available enables registered users to purchase desired products instantly using Paytm, UPI payment processor (Instant Pay) and also can place order by using Cash on Delivery (Pay Later) option. This project provides an easy access to Administrators and Managers to view orders placed using Pay Later and Instant Pay options.
In order to develop an e-commerce website, a number of Technologies must be studied and understood. These include multi-tiered architecture, server and client-side scripting techniques, implementation technologies, programming language (such as PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and MySQL relational databases. This is a project with the objective to develop a basic website where a consumer is provided with a shopping cart website and also to know about the technologies used to develop such a website.
This document will discuss each of the underlying technologies to create and implement an e- commerce website.
Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.
