Validate Your Value
Do candidates lie on their
resume?
Yes, they do!!
58% of hiring managers
caught a candidate lying on
their resume!
Source: CareerBuilder 2014 Survey
2014 CareerBuilder Study found:
• 57% of candidates had embellished his/her skill set
• 55% of candidates had embellished his/her responsibilities
• 42% of candidates misrepresented dates of employment
• 34% of candidates misrepresented his/her job title
• 33% of candidates misrepresented his/her academic degree(s)
• 26% of candidates misrepresented his/her employers
• And more…
How can you be different from
those candidates?
Validate Your Value
3 things to do
#1:
• Develop a separate reference sheet document with
professional references that match up with the jobs on
your resume
• Have it available at all times as it is powerful to inform
a prospective employer you have references
immediately available, here’s what they’ll say, and I
have a reference sheet with this information
#2:
• Develop a “Prove It” manual – this allows you to show
proof for what you claim.
• You could include copies of favorable performance
reviews, degrees, reference letters, reports, licenses,
transcripts, notes/letters/e-mails of appreciation, and
much more
#3:
• Develop an impactful LinkedIn presence with skills
endorsements and recommendations
• Ask connections to write a LinkedIn recommendation
and endorse your skills.
• It is no longer just your claim…someone else is
validating your skill and success. That can be very
powerful on your behalf
